Heavy Equipment Mechanic

JOB PURPOSE

Provides overall support by maintaining the health and productivity of the Company’s fleet. Establishes practices in effectively lowering the cost of ownership while providing quality equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Repair and maintain heavy construction equipment at our facility and in the field
  • Ability to read and comprehend electrical schematics and technical manuals
  • Diagnose equipment faults and provide timely repairs
  • Self-motivated and have a desire to learn
  • Perform preventative maintenance on fleet vehicles
  • Maintain true and accurate records for time, parts, supplies and vendor purchases
  • Perform general cleaning and facility duties
  • Assist other technicians in performing repairs
  • Order all parts and materials required to perform assigned repairs
  • Ensure the cosmetic appearance upon completion as required
  • Identifies, evaluates and mitigates risk
  • Working with manufacturing standards (e.g., knowing current standards, staying up-to-date with the latest technology, having experience working with electronics, etc.)
  • Ability to perform welding and fabrication needs

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Diesel technology degree, certification, or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • Applicant must be a standing member of The International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 18, or be willing to complete Apprenticeship training during the first 12 months of employment.
  • Must be able to possess your own tools applicable to the position.
  • Ability to work closely with diverse groups of individuals, including Company employees at all levels, customers, vendors, and outside professionals with whom the Company deals with on a regular basis.
  • Exceptional customer service and organizational skills are required.
  • Proficient computer skills, including MS Office Suite, smartphones, and tablets.
  • Must be multi-task oriented.

Language Skills:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization. Ability to communicate and understand different complex requirements of various project types and to work with different personality types.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations

Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. Motor Vehicle report required.

Physical Demands:

Medium amount of physical exertion. Medium manual dexterity or physical manipulation. Medium level of physical stamina and endurance. May need to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs. Maintain regular and punctual attendance, work overtime as assigned, travel overnight as required, drive long distances, work in cold, hot, dusty, loud environments, and comply with all company policies and procedures, including safety.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
