Heavy Equipment Operator

GOLDEN TRIANGLE REGIONAL LANDFILL, LOCATED IN STARKVILLE, MS, IS HIRING A HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR.

**You must have experience with equipment such as motor graders, bulldozers, compactors, loaders, excavators to be considered for this role. Please note Fork lift experience DOES NOT count as Heavy Equipment Experience.

The Equipment Operator routinely operates various heavy-duty equipment to facilitate the processing of solid waste or assist with construction within the landfill. This role is non-supervisory and receives direct instruction from management.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Operate various heavy-duty equipment safely, responsibly, and efficiently within a busy solid waste landfill (i.e., motor graders, bulldozers, compactors, loaders, excavators).
• Complete routine assignments in heavy equipment used in landfill operation, maintenance, and construction with limited supervision.
• Properly record, maintain, and report work orders, equipment maintenance, and safety reports as required.
• Cross train on equipment and machinery.
• Direct site traffic when necessary.
• Support other staff as needed, including absences due to illness, vacation, or other leave.
• Comply with all facility plans, policies and procedures at all times.
• Perform manual labor, including picking up trash, setting water pumps, and dressing hose.
• Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS REQUIRED

• Considerable skills in the safe operation and use of heavy construction/trucking equipment typically used for landfills and other civil works.
• A valid driver’s license.
• Exhibit initiative, responsibility, and an understanding of the capabilities of the equipment being operated.
• Knowledge, skill, and ability to safely operate equipment to avoid accidents.
• Knowledge, skill, and ability in the maintenance and servicing of equipment and machinery.
• Ability to carry out written or oral instructions.
• Limited interaction with vendors, customers, and contractors.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• All work is performed on-site at an operating landfill, in wide ranging climatic conditions.
• Risk of exposure to dust, odors, and harsh weather conditions.
• Must wear all assigned personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintain same in proper condition for use.
• The position may require occasional overtime or irregular hours on short notice.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

The successful candidate will be required to pass a drug screen, background check, and physical exam after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.
