Farmer’s Service, a subsidiary of S.B. Cox Ready Mix, is seeking a motivated Heavy Equipment Operator to support our ready-mix concrete plant and stone yard operations in Smithfield, VA. This role is critical to ensuring the efficient operation of heavy equipment such as front-end loaders, excavators, and skid steers to handle materials like aggregates, stone, and gravel. The Heavy Equipment Operator contributes to our reputation as a leading producer in the region by maintaining a safe, organized, and productive work environment, with the benefit of being home every night.

Key Responsibilities:

Equipment Operation:

• Safely and efficiently operate heavy equipment (e.g., front-end loaders, excavators, skid steers) to load, move, and stockpile materials such as concrete aggregates, stone, and gravel at the ready-mix plant and stone yard.
• Perform precise material handling to support concrete production, delivery operations, and customer orders.
• Conduct pre-shift and ongoing equipment inspections to ensure safe and reliable operation, reporting any maintenance needs promptly.

Material Management:

• Manage inventory of aggregates, stone, and other materials, ensuring proper storage and organization in the stone yard and plant.
• Load delivery trucks (mixer and dump trucks) with materials, coordinating with drivers to meet schedules.
• Assist with material processing, blending, or sorting as needed to maintain quality standards.

Compliance and Safety:

• Adhere to all company safety policies, state/federal regulations (e.g., OSHA, MSHA, DOT), and industry standards during equipment operation.
• Maintain clean, organized, and secure work areas, including plant and stone yard facilities, to ensure a safe environment.

Collaboration:

• Work closely with plant staff, delivery drivers, stone yard personnel, and maintenance teams to ensure smooth operations and timely material availability.
• Provide input on equipment performance, material conditions, and operational improvements to enhance efficiency.

Customer Service:

• Interact professionally with customers picking up materials at the stone yard, ensuring accurate order fulfillment and satisfaction.
• Maintain a professional appearance and attitude, representing the company’s commitment to quality.

Qualifications:

• Valid Virginia driver’s license; Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred but not required.
• Proven experience operating heavy equipment (e.g., front-end loaders, excavators, skid steers) in a construction, ready-mix, or stone yard environment.
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and perform physical tasks such as climbing equipment, clearing debris, or assisting with material handling.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
• Professional attitude with excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Punctuality and flexibility to work overtime, rotating shifts, and Saturdays as needed.
• No prior ready-mix or stone yard experience required; training provided for candidates with equipment operation experience.
• Must pass pre-employment drug screen.
