Heavy Equipment Operator I, II, III - Streets

Job Details

JOB SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for operating various heavy equipment used in maintenance and repair of right-of-ways and drainage systems such as bulldozer, backhoe, mini-excavator, front-end loader, paving machine, and various rollers.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of policies, procedures and construction principles pertaining to road improvement and maintenance.
• Must be capable in the operation and maintenance of bulldozer, backhoe, mini-track hoe, front-end loader, paving machine, and various rollers.
• Knowledge of achieving grade, drainage, and proper compaction.
• Knowledge of how to operate, maintains, and repair assigned heavy machinery and equipment.
• Knowledge of heavy equipment used in maintaining rights-of-way and drainage systems.
• Skills in communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
• Skill in operating heavy equipment such as motor grader, bulldozer, front-end loader, mini-excavator, backhoe, paving machine and other rollers.
• Skill in the use of tools such as shovels, picks, and levels.
• Skill in operating equipment such as hand and gas-powered tamps, rollers, weed trimmers, lawn mowers, etc.
• Communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
• Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations.
• Ability to perform physical labor in adverse and inclement weather conditions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s license in state of residency.
• Must possess and maintain a Class B CDL for HEO II
• Must possess and maintain a Class A CDL for HEO III
• Must obtain NIMS 100 and 700 within 3 months of employment.
