Job Overview
The Heavy mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy-duty equipment and machinery to ensure safe and efficient operation. This role involves working on diesel engines, hydraulic systems, transmissions and electrical systems in construction environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair heavy equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance services (oil change, lubrication, filter replacement)
- Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems
- Repair or replace engines, transmissions, axles, brakes, steering, and suspension systems
- Use diagnostic tools, manuals, and schematics to identify equipment faults
- Conduct equipment testing to ensure repairs meet safety and performance standards
- Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records
- Follow workplace safety procedures and environmental regulations
- Respond to emergency breakdowns in the field or shop
- Communicate with supervisors regarding equipment condition and repair needs
Qualifications & Skills
- H.S. diploma or equivalent, technical or trade cert. preferred
- Proven experience as a heavy mechanic or heavy equip tech
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines and hydraulic systems
- Ability to read technical drawings and service manuals
- Proficiency with diagnostic tools and repair equipment
- Physical ability to lift heavy components and work in demanding environments
- Strong problem-solving and trouble shooting skills
- Valid drivers license
Working Conditions
- Work may be performed in a shop or outdoor field environment
- Exposure to noise, grease, dirt, and varying weather conditions
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
