Heavy Mechanic/ Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Job Overview

The Heavy mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy-duty equipment and machinery to ensure safe and efficient operation. This role involves working on diesel engines, hydraulic systems, transmissions and electrical systems in construction environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Inspect, diagnose, and repair heavy equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance services (oil change, lubrication, filter replacement)
• Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems
• Repair or replace engines, transmissions, axles, brakes, steering, and suspension systems
• Use diagnostic tools, manuals, and schematics to identify equipment faults
• Conduct equipment testing to ensure repairs meet safety and performance standards
• Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records
• Follow workplace safety procedures and environmental regulations
• Respond to emergency breakdowns in the field or shop
• Communicate with supervisors regarding equipment condition and repair needs

Qualifications & Skills

• H.S. diploma or equivalent, technical or trade cert. preferred
• Proven experience as a heavy mechanic or heavy equip tech
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines and hydraulic systems
• Ability to read technical drawings and service manuals
• Proficiency with diagnostic tools and repair equipment
• Physical ability to lift heavy components and work in demanding environments
• Strong problem-solving and trouble shooting skills
• Valid drivers license

Working Conditions

• Work may be performed in a shop or outdoor field environment
• Exposure to noise, grease, dirt, and varying weather conditions

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
