Position Summary:
The Heavy Steel CNC Machinist is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining computer-controlled machining equipment to produce precise steel parts. The role requires attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and adherence to safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate fabrication machinery such as CNC plasma/laser cutters, press brakes, drill lines, saws, beam lines, and shears.
- Load and unload raw materials and finished parts using overhead cranes, forklifts, or other material handling equipment.
- Read and follow blueprints, job orders, and work instructions to produce parts to specification.
- Monitor machine performance, inspect finished parts, and make minor adjustments as needed to maintain accuracy and quality.
- Work closely with the machine programmer to ensure files and setup parameters are correctly followed.
- Perform routine maintenance checks, clean equipment, and report any malfunctions or safety concerns.
- Accurately complete production logs, quality control records, and time tracking.
- Adhere to all company safety protocols and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Support team members with general shop tasks and assist in other fabrication areas as required.
Required Qualifications:
- Basic ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Familiarity with hand tools, measuring instruments (calipers, tape measures,
- squares), and material handling equipment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Willingness to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding industrial environment.
- Reliable attendance and a strong commitment to safety and teamwork.
- Ability to read a tape measure.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in structural steel or heavy fabrication industries.
- Forklift or crane operation certification.
- Familiarity with CNC controls and basic troubleshooting.
Physical Requirements:
- Stand for extended periods and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Lift and maneuver heavy materials (up to 50 lbs) with or without assistance.
- Work in conditions involving noise, heat, sparks, and exposure to steel dust and grease.
Work Environment
- Fabrication shop environment with exposure to noise, heat, and heavy equipment.
- Requires use of PPE and adherence to company safety guidelines.
- Requires standing, lifting, and moving steel components regularly.
- May involve overtime, weekend work, or project-specific schedules.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $15.00 - $25.00 per hour
