We are seeking a highly skilled Heavy Transport Engineer to plan, engineer, and manage abnormal load and modular trailer transportation operations. The role involves technical engineering calculations, route feasibility studies, permit coordination, and on-site supervision of heavy transport projects across the UAE.
The ideal candidate will have strong engineering knowledge of modular trailers, axle load distribution, route constraints, and heavy haulage operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Engineering & Planning
- Perform load distribution, axle load, and ground bearing pressure calculations for modular trailers (towbar and gooseneck systems).
- Design transport configurations for oversized and overweight cargo.
- Conduct route surveys and feasibility studies for abnormal loads.
- Prepare turning simulations using AutoTURN or similar software.
- Evaluate bridges, culverts, roads, and site access constraints.
Permits & Documentation
- Prepare and submit abnormal load permit applications to RTA, DoT, Police, Municipalities, Ports, and Free Zones.
- Prepare Method Statements, Risk Assessments, and Traffic Management Plans (TMP).
- Liaise with authorities, police escorts, and third-party surveyors.
Operations & Site Supervision
- Supervise loading, lashing, transport convoy, and unloading operations.
- Ensure correct trailer configuration, ballast, steering modes, and prime mover setup.
- Monitor convoy safety and ensure compliance with UAE transport laws.
- Coordinate with drivers, riggers, escorts, and clients during execution.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related field.
Experience
- Minimum 3 years experience in heavy transport, abnormal load, or project cargo engineering.
- Experience with modular trailers (Goldhofer, Scheuerle, Faymonville, SPMT) is highly preferred.
- Experience with towbar trailer configurations and ballast calculations is an advantage.
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of axle load calculations and load spreading.
- Familiar with UAE abnormal load permit regulations and authorities.
- Proficient in AutoCAD, AutoTURN, and Excel engineering calculations.
- Understanding of prime movers (Mercedes SLT, Volvo, MAN, Scania heavy haul).
