HGV Class 1 Tramper Driver – Container Work

Self-Employed Position

We are looking for an experienced HGV Class 1 Tramper Driver to support our container transport operation, delivering shipping containers from UK ports to customer sites across the country.

This is a self-employed role involving Monday to Friday tramping, with nights out and sleeping in the cab during the working week. The role will involve working with skelly trailers on container movements, so previous experience carrying containers is essential.

The ideal candidate must be confident with port collections and deliveries, container procedures, and working independently while maintaining a professional standard at all times.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out container deliveries and collections from UK ports.
• Drive HGV Class 1 vehicles with skelly trailers safely and professionally.
• Complete daily vehicle checks and report any defects.
• Secure and transport containers in line with safety requirements.
• Follow planned routes, delivery schedules, and customer requirements.
• Communicate effectively with transport planners, port staff, and customers.
• Complete paperwork, PODs, and delivery documentation accurately.
• Represent the company professionally at ports and delivery locations.
• Tramp Monday to Friday, with nights out in the cab as required.

Requirements

• Valid HGV Class 1 / Category C+E licence.
• Valid CPC card.
• Valid digital tachograph card.
• Previous HGV Class 1 driving experience is essential.
• Previous container transport experience is essential.
• Experience using skelly trailers is strongly preferred.
• Good knowledge of drivers’ hours and working time regulations.
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently.
• Good communication skills.
• Must be willing to tramp and sleep in the cab during the working week.
