Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and reliable HGV Fitter to work nights and maintain, service, and repair Heavy Goods Vehicles (including skip loaders, hook loaders and tippers,) to ensure they remain safe, roadworthy, and compliant with legal standards. The role involves diagnosing faults, carrying out repairs, and completing routine maintenance in line with manufacturer and DVSA requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out routine servicing, maintenance, and inspections on HGVs
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults
- Repair or replace defective parts including brakes, suspension, engines, gearboxes, and exhaust systems
- Prepare vehicles for MOT inspections and carry out associated repairs
- Complete defect reports, service records, and job cards accurately
- Ensure all work is completed safely and in compliance with health & safety regulations
- Respond to breakdowns and carry out roadside or on-site repairs when required
- Maintain a clean and safe workshop environment
- Work collaboratively with transport managers, drivers, and other technicians
Working Conditions
- Workshop-based with occasional roadside work

Required Qualifications and Skills
- Qualifications: Typically requires NVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.
- Experience: Previous experience working on HGV or commercial vehicles.
- Licence: A full driving licence is essential, with a Class 1 or 2 HGV licence preferred.
- Skills: Strong fault-finding skills, ability to work independently, and knowledge of hydraulic/pneumatic systems.
Pay: £25.00 per hour
