The HIAB Operator in road construction is responsible for operating a truck-mounted crane to lift, transport, and position construction materials such as barriers, pipes, asphalt equipment, and precast elements at roadwork sites. The role requires strict adherence to safety standards, coordination with site teams, and efficient handling of lifting operations in dynamic road environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate HIAB crane to load, unload, and position materials at road construction sites
- Transport materials such as road barriers, steel plates, drainage pipes, and equipment
- Assist in placing temporary road structures (signboards, cones, barricades, etc.)
- Ensure proper securing of loads before transportation
- Conduct pre-use inspections of truck and crane (hydraulics, outriggers, hooks, etc.)
- Follow lifting plans and ensure safe crane operations in confined or high-traffic areas
- Coordinate with site engineers, supervisors, and flagmen during operations
- Comply with road safety regulations and traffic management guidelines
- Perform basic maintenance and report mechanical issues immediately
- Maintain daily logs for operations, fuel usage, and deliveries
Requirements & Qualifications
- Valid Heavy Vehicle Driving License (mandatory)
- Certified HIAB / truck-mounted crane operator license
- Minimum 2–5 years of experience, preferably in road or infrastructure projects
- Strong understanding of lifting procedures and load charts
- Knowledge of road construction site safety practices
- Ability to work in high-traffic and fast-paced environments
- Physically fit and capable of working long hours outdoors
