Duties
- Develop and implement comprehensive English curricula aligned with state standards and best practices in literacy education.
- Design engaging lesson plans that incorporate creative writing, journalism, and research projects to enhance students’ writing skills and critical analysis.
- Utilize learning technology tools to facilitate interactive lessons and support diverse learning styles.
- Incorporate AP style guidelines into classroom instruction, proofreading exercises, and student assignments.
- Mentor students individually or in groups to improve literacy skills, prepare for standardized testing, and support academic advising efforts.
- Manage classroom behavior effectively through positive behavior management strategies, fostering a respectful and productive environment.
- Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum design, instructional strategies, and school-wide initiatives to promote continuous improvement.
- Engage in ongoing professional development related to higher education teaching techniques, special education accommodations, Montessori methods, or other relevant pedagogies.
- Provide timely feedback on student work through copy editing, proofreading exercises, and formative assessments to support learning progress.
- Participate in school events, parent-teacher conferences, and extracurricular activities that promote student engagement and community involvement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, Linguistics or a related field.
- Valid teaching certification for high school English or equivalent credentials.
- Proven classroom experience with high school students in diverse educational settings; private school experience is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of curriculum development, instructional design, standardized testing preparation, and literacy education strategies.
- Familiarity with AP style guidelines, copy editing techniques, and proofreading skills.
- Experience working with learning technology platforms and integrating digital tools into lesson plans.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to mentor students effectively and collaborate with colleagues.
- Organizational skills necessary for lesson planning, managing classroom activities, and maintaining accurate records.
- Knowledge of special education needs or behavior management strategies is advantageous.
