High School Science Teacher

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards in biology, chemistry, physics, and earth sciences.
  • Deliver engaging lectures and facilitate hands-on laboratory experiments to enhance understanding of complex scientific concepts such as organic chemistry, genetics, biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology, and cell biology.
  • Design assessments including quizzes, tests, and standardized exams to evaluate student progress effectively.
  • Manage classroom behavior to create a positive learning environment conducive to student success.
  • Incorporate learning technology tools and instructional design strategies to support diverse learning styles and needs.
  • Mentor students through academic advising, tutoring sessions, and research projects to foster curiosity and scientific inquiry.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development, extracurricular activities, and school-wide initiatives related to science education.
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance and communicate progress with parents and guardians regularly.
  • Stay current with advancements in science education by participating in professional development opportunities and research laboratory experiences.

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of scientific disciplines including biology (cell biology, genetics, molecular biology), chemistry (organic chemistry), physics (including calculus and differential equations), mathematics (algebra, trigonometry, discrete math), and microbiology.
  • Proven experience in classroom management and behavior management techniques.
  • Skilled in lesson planning, instructional design, curriculum development, and assessment creation.
  • Proficiency with learning technology platforms and educational software to enhance instruction.
  • Excellent communication skills for working effectively with students, parents, colleagues, and administration.
  • Experience with standardized testing preparation and educational research methodologies.
  • Ability to mentor students in research projects or science competitions; familiarity with library services for academic resources is a plus.
  • Prior teaching experience at the high school level or higher education settings; private school experience is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of special education strategies to support diverse learners; experience with Montessori or other specialized educational approaches is desirable.
