High School Science Teacher

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth Science, Science Education, or a closely related field.
  • Valid Tennessee state teaching certification (or eligibility) in a secondary science discipline (grades 6–12).
  • Demonstrated ability to teach at the high school level with a strong command of scientific content knowledge.
  • Experience with laboratory instruction and student safety management.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of Catholic education.

Preferred

  • Master's degree in Science, Science Education, or a related field.
  • Experience teaching in a Catholic or faith-based school setting.
  • Certification or experience in AP coursework (e.g., AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Environmental Science).
  • Familiarity with NWEA MAP assessment data and its application to instruction.
  • Experience with dual enrollment or concurrent college credit programs.
  • Proficiency with PowerSchool, Google Workspace, or other educational technology platforms.

  • Deep content knowledge in one or more science disciplines with the ability to teach across multiple courses as needed.
  • Strong classroom management skills and ability to maintain a productive, respectful learning environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for engaging students, parents, faculty, and administration.
  • Collaborative team player with a growth mindset and commitment to ongoing professional learning.
  • Ability to analyze student performance data and adjust instructional strategies accordingly.
  • Organized and detail-oriented, capable of managing laboratory preparation, grading, and administrative responsibilities simultaneously.

Work Environment & Schedule

  • Primarily classroom and laboratory settings; may also include outdoor fieldwork or off-campus science-related activities.
  • Standard school day schedule with occasional after-school availability for tutoring, meetings, department events, or competitions.
  • Physical requirements include frequent standing, moving throughout the classroom and lab, and occasional lifting of laboratory equipment or materials.
  • 10-month faculty contract; summer availability may be requested for curriculum planning or professional development.

Compensation

Salary is commensurate with experience and education level A performance stipend is provided in recognition of the combined role's extracurricular responsibilities. Comprehensive benefit package and school tuition discount if applicable.
