Overview
Join our dynamic educational team as a High School Special Education English Teacher, dedicated to empowering students with diverse learning needs. This paid position is designed for certified teachers passionate about fostering literacy, communication, and academic growth among students with disabilities, including those with autism and other developmental challenges. You will play a vital role in creating an inclusive classroom environment that promotes engagement, independence, and success through innovative teaching strategies and personalized support.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement engaging, standards-aligned lesson plans tailored to individual student IEPs (Individualized Education Programs) that focus on literacy, writing skills, and language development.
  • Utilize a variety of teaching methods, including curriculum development and creative writing techniques, to meet diverse learning styles and needs.
  • Manage classroom behavior effectively using behavior management strategies and applied behavior analysis techniques to foster a positive learning environment.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—including speech therapists, occupational therapists, and educational administrators—to adapt curriculum and support services for students with disabilities.
  • Conduct assessments using standardized testing and formative evaluations to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Incorporate learning technology tools to enhance instructional delivery and student engagement.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of student progress, including IEP goals, behavioral data, and lesson plans in accordance with educational standards such as AP style and Chicago Manual of Style.

Requirements

  • Valid certification as a High School Special Education Teacher with endorsement in English or Language Arts.
  • Proven classroom experience working with students with disabilities, including autism and developmental disabilities.
  • Strong knowledge of special education laws, IEP development, and behavioral therapy techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with colleagues, students, families, and support staff.
  • Demonstrated ability in curriculum development, lesson planning, and literacy education strategies.
  • Experience working with learning technology platforms and applying innovative teaching methods such as Montessori or other progressive approaches is a plus.
  • Familiarity with standardized testing procedures, applied behavior analysis (ABA), and classroom management best practices. Job Type: Temporary

Pay: $28.00 - $30.00 per hour
