High School Teaching Assistant

Job Overview
Local Learning Academy is seeking a passionate and community‑minded Teaching Assistant to support our teen homeschool learning program (ages 13–18). In this role, you will help guide learners through hands‑on, project‑based learning, support core academics (curriculum provided), and foster a positive, relationship‑centered environment. You will also lead 1–2 classes in areas you’re passionate about, helping teens explore new interests and build confidence as independent learners. This paid position is ideal for someone who enjoys mentoring teens, contributing to a creative learning community, and supporting a non‑traditional, small‑group educational model.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support high‑school coursework in Medical Biology/A&P, American Government, High School Writing, and Algebra 2 (curriculum provided)
  • Guide students through dual‑enrollment and CLEP preparation with structured support and encouragement
  • Lead 1–2 small classes or workshops based on your strengths, interests, or expertise
  • Provide one‑on‑one and small‑group academic help, tutoring, and mentoring
  • Assist teens in developing independent‑learning habits, time‑management skills, and academic confidence
  • Support project‑based and real‑world learning activities that connect academics to meaningful experiences
  • Help maintain an organized, welcoming learning environment and prepare materials as needed
  • Collaborate with staff to track student progress and ensure consistent weekly support

Requirements

  • Experience working with teens in educational, tutoring, mentoring, or youth‑program settings
  • Comfort guiding learning in a non‑traditional, project‑based environment
  • Ability to lead small classes or workshops in areas of personal interest or expertise
  • Strong communication skills and a warm, community‑oriented approach
  • Consistent weekly availability on Tuesdays and Thursdays
  • Background check required
  • Passion for supporting teen growth, independence, and real‑world readiness
