The Highway Engineer is responsible for planning, designing, and supervising the construction and maintenance of highways, roads, and related structures. The role ensures technical accuracy, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with quality, safety, and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review designs, drawings, BOQs, and specifications for highways, roads, culverts, and related works in accordance with IRC, MORTH, or other applicable standards.
- Carry out alignment studies, geometric design, and pavement design for new and existing roads.
- Conduct surveys, feasibility studies, and traffic analysis to support project planning.
- Supervise and monitor construction activities, ensuring adherence to approved drawings, technical specifications, and quality standards.
- Coordinate with survey, geotechnical, and material testing teams for data collection and validation.
- Prepare and review method statements, work schedules, and quality control plans.
- Monitor project progress, prepare daily/weekly reports, and escalate risks or deviations.
- Assist in cost estimation, tender preparation, and bid evaluations.
- Inspect existing highways for maintenance, rehabilitation, or capacity enhancement needs.
- Ensure strict compliance with safety, environmental, and statutory requirements.
Qualifications & Skills
- B.E./B.Tech in Civil Engineering (M.Tech in Transportation/Highway Engineering preferred).
- 3–8 years of experience in design, construction, or maintenance of highways and roads.
- Strong knowledge of geometric and pavement design, material properties, and highway drainage.
- Proficiency in design and analysis software (MX Road, Civil 3D, AutoCAD, STAAD, MS Office).
- Familiarity with relevant codes and standards (IRC, MORTH, AASHTO).
- Excellent problem-solving, planning, and organizational skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal abilities.
