We are seeking a dedicated Highway Maintenance Worker to join our Public Infrastructure team. In this vital role, you’ll serve as a first responder for roadway incidents while performing scheduled and emergency maintenance that ensures safe, efficient travel for the public.

What You’ll Do
- Perform routine and emergency roadway maintenance, including paving, pothole patching, crack sealing, debris removal, signage repair, and guardrail work.
- Conduct regular roadway inspections to identify hazards and initiate corrective action.
- Respond quickly to traffic accidents, obstructions, disabled vehicles, and hazardous spills.
- Implement traffic control at incident scenes, including cones, signage, barriers, and flares.
- Operate trucks, maintenance equipment, and hand tools safely and effectively.
- Collaborate with law enforcement, fire/EMS, towing services, and DOT personnel to resolve incidents.
- Document incidents and complete daily reports in a timely, accurate manner.
- Promote Monarch’s “Culture of Safety” by enforcing proper PPE use and participating in regular safety meetings.
- Support continuous improvement efforts through post-incident reviews and feedback.
What We’re Looking For
- Experience:
- Public infrastructure, roadway maintenance, emergency response, or construction preferred.
- Knowledge of traffic control standards and roadway safety practices.
Education:
- High school diploma or GED required.
Licenses:
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record required.
Skills:
- Strong situational awareness and ability to stay calm under pressure.
- Effective communication with agencies, coworkers, and the public.
- Basic computer literacy (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Problem-solving ability to quickly assess and respond to incidents.
- Detail-oriented, organized, and dependable.
Work Style:
- Able to work independently or as part of a team; flexible to work nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours.
Physical & Work Requirements
- Ability to lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs.
- Frequent walking, standing, bending, climbing, and balancing.
- Ability to drive trucks for extended day/night shifts.
- Work outdoors in all Arizona weather conditions, from extreme summer heat to winter cold.
- Regular exposure to traffic hazards, heavy equipment, and emergency situations (PPE provided).
