Position Summary:

Hinds Career Center is seeking a dedicated, passionate, and knowledgeable Career and Technical Education (CTE) Social & Community Services Instructor to join our team in the Social & Community Services Pathway. This position includes a dual role: providing high-quality instruction in Social & Community Services courses and supporting students through career coaching in collaboration with the Assistant Director.


The instructor will deliver engaging, project-based learning experiences that prepare students for careers in social work, community health, case management, behavioral health, community-based services, and related helping professions. Instruction will focus on human development, diversity, relationships, ethics, and community resources, while fostering the interpersonal and professional skills necessary for success in postsecondary education and the workforce.


In addition, this role will support students in career exploration, goal setting, employability skill development, and work-based learning opportunities. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in human services, a passion for student support, and a commitment to helping students navigate both academic and career pathways.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging instruction aligned to Indiana CTE Social & Community Services standards and competencies.
  • Design and facilitate lessons and experiential learning aligned to topics such as human services systems, cultural diversity, interpersonal relationships, ethics, and community resources.
  • Prepare students to understand and apply key social and community services concepts including professional behavior, confidentiality, advocacy, ethical decision-making, outreach, and access to services in helping professions.
  • Facilitate student learning experiences related to crisis awareness, behavioral health, and client-centered support strategies.
  • Introduce students to case management, service coordination, and community referral systems.
  • Incorporate real-world applications such as job shadowing, service learning, and community-based projects aligned with program expectations.
  • Collaborate with community agencies and industry partners to provide work-based learning, guest speakers, and career exploration opportunities.
  • Support students in identifying community resources and understanding the role of community and human service agencies in meeting diverse population needs.
  • Integrate career exploration, credential awareness, and employability skill development aligned to Social & Community Services pathways.
  • Align curriculum, assessments, and program outcomes with state and industry standards to ensure students are prepared for certifications and postsecondary pathways. CLICK HERE for program standards.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date student records, including attendance, progress, and credential attainment data.
  • Ensure a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment, managing equipment, instruments, and supplies according to health and safety guidelines.
  • Encourage participation from non-traditional and underrepresented students while supporting inclusive instructional practices.
  • Participate in professional development to stay current on advances in social and community services practices.
  • Collaborate with other CTE instructors and staff to align curriculum and support school-wide goals.
  • Serve in a career coaching capacity by:
  • Assisting students with career exploration, pathway planning, and postsecondary readiness
  • Supporting employability skill development (resume writing, interviewing, professionalism)
  • Coordinating with the Assistant Director on student interventions and supports


Qualifications:

  • Industry experience and/or degree in Human Services, Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Community Health, Behavioral Health, or a related field.
  • Licensing options:
  • Workplace Specialist: Social & Community Services or other qualifying licensure aligned to Social and Community Services per Indiana CTE guidelines - - or candidate will obtain Workplace Specialist License during first year of teaching

**Workplace Specialist eligibility requirements include 5000 hours

(about 2.5 years) of verified occupational experience in the past five (5) years

  • Demonstrated knowledge of human services concepts including:
  • Cultural diversity and social systems
  • Ethics, confidentiality, and professional standards
  • Interpersonal communication, relationships, and emotional development
  • Experience working with diverse populations, community agencies, or in a helping profession setting preferred.
  • Strong understanding of career readiness, employability skills, and student support systems.
  • Excellent organizational, instructional, and classroom management skills.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills with students, families, staff, and community partners.
  • Commitment to hands-on learning, student safety, continuous program improvement, and equitable, inclusive, and culturally responsive teaching practices.
  • Passion for career and technical education, student development, and preparing students for postsecondary success and careers in social and community services.

Contract & Compensation:

  • Salary to commensurate with established Master Agreement salary schedule and experience
