Geotechnical engineer

Minimum of 7+ years of experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, design, and execute geotechnical site investigations (drilling, sampling, in-situ testing such as SPT, CPT, permeability, Lugeon, etc.).
• Analyze soil and rock properties to evaluate strength, settlement, stability, and permeability.
• Prepare geotechnical design reports and provide recommendations for:
• Foundations
• Slopes
• Retaining structures
• Embankments
• Excavations
• Utilize geotechnical software (e.g., PLAXIS, GeoStudio, Rocscience Suite, AutoCAD) for soil-structure interaction modeling and analysis.
• Review and approve technical drawings, design documents, and construction methodologies.
• Provide on-site supervision and ensure construction compliance with geotechnical design.
• Conduct geotechnical risk assessments and suggest mitigation measures (e.g., landslides, subsidence, groundwater issues).
• Collaborate with civil, structural, and environmental teams to integrate geotechnical solutions into larger designs.
• Prepare cost estimates, BOQs, and technical specifications for geotechnical works.
• Ensure adherence to health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Engineering Geology. (PhD preferred for senior positions.)
• Proven experience in geotechnical design and site investigations. (Minimum years depending on role seniority.)
• Strong knowledge of:
• Soil and rock mechanics
• Ground improvement techniques
• Foundation engineering
• Proficiency in geotechnical design tools: PLAXIS, Rocscience, GeoStudio, AutoCAD, etc.
• Experience in large-scale infrastructure projects (roads, tunnels, dams, railways, hydropower, etc.) is an asset.
• Strong technical writing and reporting skills.
• Excellent teamwork and communication capabilities.
