Job Summary

The Hold Cleaning / Tank Cleaning Supervisor is responsible for planning, supervising, and executing cargo hold and tank cleaning operations onboard vessels or in shipyards. The role ensures work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company procedures, safety regulations, and client requirements.

Key Responsibilities

1. Operational Supervision

  • Supervise daily cargo hold cleaning and tank cleaning operations on vessels.
  • Plan manpower, equipment, and materials required for each job.
  • Coordinate with ship crew, project managers, and yard supervisors.
  • Ensure work is completed within the agreed schedule.

2. Safety Management

  • Ensure compliance with confined space entry procedures.
  • Conduct Toolbox Talks (TBT) before starting work.
  • Verify gas testing before tank entry.
  • Ensure workers use proper PPE and safety equipment.
  • Follow safety standards from organizations like International Maritime Organization (IMO) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) where applicable.

3. Work Execution

  • Supervise:
  • Cargo hold washing
  • Chemical cleaning
  • Sludge removal
  • Tank washing
  • High-pressure water jetting
  • Waste disposal operations
  • Ensure correct use of pumps, hoses, ventilation blowers, and cleaning machines.

4. Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain daily progress reports.
  • Record manpower, equipment usage, and job completion status.
  • Prepare cleaning completion reports for client approval.

5. Team Management

  • Supervise cleaners, operators, and technicians.
  • Assign tasks to workers according to the job plan.
  • Ensure discipline and productivity at the worksite.

6. Client Coordination

  • Communicate with ship officers and client representatives.
  • Ensure job quality meets inspection standards.
  • Resolve operational issues during cleaning work.

Required Qualifications

  • Diploma or technical qualification (Marine / Mechanical preferred).
  • 3–7 years experience in ship hold cleaning, tank cleaning, or industrial cleaning.
  • Experience in shipyards, marine services, or offshore projects.

Required Skills

  • Knowledge of confined space entry procedures
  • Knowledge of tank ventilation systems
  • High-pressure cleaning equipment operation
  • Marine safety procedures
  • Team supervision and coordination
  • Basic reporting and documentation

Certifications (Preferred)

  • Confined Space Entry Certificate
  • Gas Tester Certification
  • Basic Safety Training (STCW)
  • H2S Awareness

Typical Equipment Supervised

  • High-pressure water jet machines
  • Vacuum pumps
  • Sludge pumps
  • Air blowers / ventilation fans
  • Chemical dosing pumps

Driving licence is Mandatory
