Job Summary
This position is responsible for delivering non-medical personal care including assistance with eating, dressing, bathing, self-administered medications and other activities of daily living. The Aide may provide light housekeeping services necessary to maintain the client’s home in a sanitary, safe, and presentable condition that prevents the spread of infection and odors. The Aide may provide supervisory sitting / companionship to frail individuals to relieve loneliness and social isolation. The Aide may also provide respite relief for a primary caregiver.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Home Care Aide II is responsible for assisting the functionally impaired client with maintaining good personal hygiene and a sanitary environment. Duties include but are not limited to:
· Plan daily/weekly work schedule to complete assigned tasks in time authorized
· Bathing (shower, tub, bed or sponge bath), dressing
· Ambulating or transferring
· Food preparation and feeding
· Housekeeping services related to personal care, i.e. making and changing bed, laundry, straightening bathroom as needed.
· Supervise self-administered medication, as assigned; employees shall not administer any medication.
· Being able to assist a client weighing more than 200 pounds while ambulating or transferring.
· Assist with toileting, bedpan, commode
· Lift & turn clients in bed or chair
· Report significant changes in client’s health and/or overall condition to Program Administrator
· Report unsafe conditions (such as leaky faucets or toilets, loose tile, etc.) and any needed repairs immediately to Program Administrator
· Must ensure that the home is left in a safe and secure condition at the end of each assignment
· Check entire home for spills especially in the client’s bathroom and kitchen areas
· Vacuum, sweep, and mop hard surface floors in client’s room, bathroom, kitchen and common areas as needed
· Empty and clean trash containers
· Clean and sanitize bathroom fixtures, sinks, mirror, counter, commode, tub, and shower as needed
· Change bed linens and perform laundry tasks
· Maintain clean and well-organized food storage, preparation, and kitchen areas
· Restock paper towels, tissues, soaps, and other household supplies per client’s request
· Use safety precautions in all housekeeping services including the following required procedures for the use and disposal of household cleaning chemicals and for the clean-up and disposal of infectious materials or body fluids
· Visit with a client who is socially and/or geographically isolated for the purpose of relieving loneliness and providing continuing social contact
· Supervision of the client to relieve the caregiver from the responsibility of constant continuous care
· Providing personal care assistance as assigned
· Do not leave the client unattended
· Complete and submit by prescribed deadlines paperwork that accurately reflects services provided and properly documents the time spent in performing each service
Education
· High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent is required.
· Current Florida Certified Nursing Assistant license, Home Health Aide Certificate, or proof of minimum training requirements under state guidelines (must have a minimum of 75 hours documented on Home Health Aide Certificate)
· CPR BLS certification approved by the American Heart Association must be maintained.
· Complete 12 hours of annual in-service training per State of Florida requirements.
Experience
Previous experience working in the home care field is highly desired.
Notice
Aides may be asked to travel to work areas in the county outside of their normal work area on an as needed basis.
Skills/Competency Requirements
This position requires high standards of personal cleanliness and a sincere interest in working with the elderly. Additional requirements include the ability to:
· Handle various household cleaning products, solvents and chemicals.
· Communicate in a positive and professional manner with clients / family members and treat them with respect.
· Perform a variety of tasks, often on short notice in a fast-paced, varied and busy work environment.
· Work alone with limited supervision and be self-motivated and organized
· Work as a member of a team to help the program achieve its goals
· Clean up human waste and other body fluids, as required.
· Requires use of personal car, valid Florida driver’s license and automobile insurance to perform job duties

Physical Requirements
Ability to perform the following tasks if necessary:
· Ability to participate in physical activity.
· Ability to work for extended period while standing and being involved in physical activity.
· Ability to work in Florida weather includes high heat and rain.
· Move continuously during work hours and to lift and/or carry up to 25 pounds.
· Ability to do extensive bending, lifting and standing on a regular basis.
· Assist a client weighing more than 200 pounds while ambulating or transferring
Emergency Disaster Assistance
As part of the obligation of the agency, all employees, unless otherwise specified, may be required to be available prior to, during and post disaster. Assignments, as required, will be issued in accordance with directives from Senior Resource Alliance, Brevard County Government, and agency Administration.
