POSITION SUMMARY: The Physical Therapist Assistant provides physical therapy services under the direction of the Physical Therapist and according to the physician's plan of care.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

  • Provides direct physical therapy services under the direction of supervising Physical Therapist and in accordance with the physician's plan of care.
  • Treats patients to relieve pain, develop or restore function, and maintain maximum performance.
  • Directs and aids patients in active and passive therapeutic exercises, muscle reeducation, gait and functional training, transfer activities, and prosthetic training.
  • Utilizes physical agents, including, but not be limited to heat, cold, water, light, electricity, ultrasound and massage.
  • Observes and reports to the Physical Therapist and the agency personnel the patient’s reaction to treatment and any changes in patient’s condition.
  • Instructs patients in care and use of wheelchairs, braces, crutches, canes, and prosthetic or orthotic devices.
  • Maintains necessary records; clinical notes and conference notes, to be incorporated into the patient’s clinical record within prescribed time frames.
  • Participates in agency care conference meetings and in-service education program.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION:

  • Current PTA licensure in state of practice.
  • Must have graduated from a physical therapy assistant program approved by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (“CAPTE”) or any successor organization of the CAPTE and have passed a national examination for PTAs.
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • Current Driver’s License, vehicle insurance, and access to a dependable vehicle or public transportation.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • None.

  • Job may require heavy use of office equipment, including computer, tablet, and phone.
  • Must have the reasonable ability to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, feel, reach, balance, see, talk, hear, and drive. Must be reasonably capable of lifting over thirty (30) pounds.
  • Significant portion (>50%) of daily assignments may require travel to client/resident/patient locations or other work sites, via car or public transportation.
  • Work schedule may occasionally require evening, night, holiday, or weekend assignments.
