Residential Remodeling Designer

Position Summary

The Residential Remodeling Designer is responsible for leading the design, selections, and pricing process for residential remodeling projects ranging from $35,000 to $300,000. The role ensures that design details are clearly documented and communicated so projects are executed accurately, on time, and within budget.

The Residential Remodeling Designer works closely with clients, sales, suppliers, subcontractors, and the production team to develop designs that balance the client’s vision, construction feasibility, and project profitability.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of residential interior design experience within a remodeling or design-build environment
  • Experience designing kitchen, bathroom, and basement remodeling projects
  • Advanced proficiency using Chief Architect Premier to develop floor plans and 3D renderings
  • Strong understanding of residential construction methods and building codes
  • Experience preparing construction drawings, scopes of work, and design documentation
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
  • Strong critical thinking, communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using 2020 Design software for cabinet ordering
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Google Docs, and design visualization tools
  • Residence in Northern Virginia or surrounding areas

Key Responsibilities

  • Design residential remodeling projects including kitchens, bathrooms, and basements
  • Produce floor plans, 3D renderings, and supporting MEP drawings using Chief Architect Premier
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable building codes and construction requirements including framing, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC considerations
  • Manage approximately 4 to 6 active design projects at various stages of development
  • Review and validate Design Agreements and scope assumptions developed during the sales process
  • Prepare construction contracts and full scopes of work for clients and subcontractors
  • Coordinate with suppliers and subcontractors to confirm selections, specifications, and pricing
  • Manage the selections process, document and ensure accuracy of materials, fixtures, and finishes
  • Maintain project budgets while balancing design intent, quality standards, and profitability
  • Conduct measurement visits, trade walks, site visits with a structural engineer and review subcontractor statements of work
  • Work closely with clients, sales staff, production teams, and vendors throughout the design process
  • Assemble the final proposals including renderings, layouts, takeoffs, and supporting documentation
  • Execute the handoff of finalized designs to the production team and support production by addressing design questions during project execution

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation for this role includes salary, car allowance, health insurance reimbursement, paid vacation, and participation in the company’s 401(k) plan with employer matching.
