Phyllis Wheatley Community Center (PWCC) has proudly served the Minneapolis Community since 1924 and was the first agency in the Twin Cities committed to meeting the human services needs of a growing African American community. For many Blacks, PWCC was a safe port in the midst of a racially segregated city. Although our community remains chronically underserved today, our organization is dedicated to breaking barriers, fostering opportunities, and creating equity and equality for the African American community.

Wages & Benefits

$21.15 - $22.60 per hour; Paid Time Off (PTO), plus 13 paid holidays and two floating holidays; competitive health, dental, and vision insurance. There is employer paid basic life insurance with the option for additional coverage paid by the employee. The employer pays for Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) and long-term disability insurance.

Phyllis Wheatley Community Center is hiring a Program Coordinator for their HOPE For Women Program who will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the youth trauma program and associated activities.

Responsibilities

• Taking referrals for case management and other services from Hennepin County.
• Facilitating multiple group courses using approved PWCC curriculum.
• Maintaining a balanced caseload of individual clients in addition to group facilitation responsibilities.
• Coordinating the work of other service providers, including case managers, guest speakers, and the Community Resource Service Center Coordinator, to ensure participants receive comprehensive, wrap-around services.
• Providing information and referrals to emergency shelter, permanent housing, food resources, and chemical or mental health crisis services as needed.
• Developing and maintaining strong relationships with community partner organizations.
• Assessing risk related to violence or abuse and supporting participants with safety planning.
• Completing monthly outcome-building activities to support participant engagement and program success.
• Maintaining regular communication with Hennepin County regarding participant progress and contractual requirements.
• Maintaining accurate and up-to-date client notes, files, and documentation.
• Adhering to ethical, legal, and organizational policies related to client confidentiality.
• Collecting, managing, and preparing data and reports on at least a monthly basis.

Who You Are

• You hold a bachelor’s degree or demonstrate equivalent training/experience in education, social work, human services, counseling, or a related field.
• You have relevant, recent experience working in human services.
• You are familiar with trauma-informed care principles, including an understanding of historical trauma.
• You are able to effectively engage adults and youth who are offenders and/or victims of violence, including helping them assess their needs and providing emotional support during times of crisis.
• You work effectively with clients across multiple dimensions of diversity, including cultural and socioeconomic background, gender identity, sexual orientation, and spiritual or religious beliefs.
• You are able to support clients in crisis during non-traditional hours, as needed.
• You have experience facilitating groups, trainings, or therapeutic sessions, which is highly desirable.
• You bring additional training in one or more areas such as conflict de-escalation, negotiation, sexual assault, human trafficking, domestic violence, victim services, or Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
• You demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills.
• You are skilled in community organizing, including identifying issues, building consensus, problem-solving, and navigating conflict or resistance collaboratively.
• You have the ability to work independently within established guidelines.
• You use sound judgment, discretion, and maintain strict client confidentiality.
• You have a valid driver’s license, access to reliable transportation, and the ability to meet PWCC’s driving record requirements. Please note that if the license was not issued in the state of Minnesota, you have 60 days after becoming a Minnesota resident in which to apply for your Minnesota driver's license or permit (not applicable for new hires living out of state).
