Hospice & Non-Emergency Medical Transportation Driver

The Driver position starts at $14.50 per hour, hours will vary per week. Trip bonus is paid in addition to hourly rate.

Driving a provided WheelCare, LLC van is required while assisting, and securing passengers during transport. Most trips are local but may be long distance as well as 24/7. Training will be provided.

Hospice transportation can be 24/7. Moving patients in tight spaces may be required so experience is a plus.

Hiring is dependent on passing drug, background, MVR screen and getting a physical. Medical Marijuana and CBD gummies will exclude you from being eligible for this job and a drug screen will be conducted annually.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • MUST LIVE IN or near Panama City.
  • Must be flexible in daily work schedule. Daily start time and number of hours will vary.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with 3-years verifiable driving experience.
  • Must have a clean driving record for last 7 years - No DUI/DWI's and No Suspensions.
  • Must have reliable transportation to work.
  • Must be able to drive a van with a hydraulic wheelchair lift.
  • Clean background (past 7 years)- No arrests. A background check will be run.
  • No felony criminal record.
  • Must be able to comply with physical demands.
  • Must be responsive to calls as communication with Dispatch is essential.
  • Must be punctual in relation to business needs AM and PM.
  • Must be able to communicate with customers and dispatchers effectively and clearly.
  • Bilingual is a plus, but must speak, read, and write English.
  • Must have an ability to be trained, coached, and counseled.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Safety transfer hospice patients to a Broda Traversa Chair.
  • Safely transport clients to medical and non-medical appointments.
  • Safely transport wheelchair bound and ambulatory clients.
  • Safely operate wheelchair van (company vehicle provided).
  • Keeping accurate electronic logs.
  • A geographic knowledge of the area is a plus.
  • Know how to operate a smart phone. Cell allowance is provided for use of your smartphone.
  • Drivers are responsible for keeping their vehicles clean, inside and out, with company provided supplies or carwash tag.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to maneuver a Broada Traversa chair up and down stairs or ramp.
  • Ability to safely escort clients in manual wheelchairs.
  • Ability to stoop, bend, kneel, and stretch in confided spaces.
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 75lbs.
  • Ability to safely assist clients walking with or without a walker.
  • Eyesight must comply with the standards set forth by the O.D.O.T. for day and night driving; may be corrected with the aid of prescription eyewear.
  • Hearing of low and high frequencies is required and may be corrected with the use of hearing aids.

Provided Training Required:

  • CPR & First Aid Certificate (company paid).
  • Passenger Assistance Certificate (company paid).
  • Defensive Driving Certificate (company paid).
  • Wheelchair securement Certificate (company paid).
  • Training while driving (company paid).

DRESS CODE:

  • Must adhere to dress code (company provides shirts).
  • Drivers are required to wear a mask when requested by the customer. (company provided mask).

OTHER:

  • Part-time work is available. Estimate hours will be 24-40 hours per week.
  • Bonus pay per passenger transported.
  • 12 hours of training time is paid once driver reports to first trip.
