Job Summary:
To ensure safe, effective, and rational dispensing of medicines as per prescription and hospital policies while maintaining statutory compliance and NABH standards.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Dispense medicines as per valid prescription of Registered Medical Practitioner.
- Verify prescription for correctness (dose, frequency, drug interactions).
- Maintain proper storage of medicines (temperature control, FEFO/FIFO system).
- Check expiry dates regularly and remove near-expiry/expired stock.
- Maintain narcotic and schedule drug records as per Drugs & Cosmetics Act.
- Maintain stock register, inward/outward entries and inventory control.
- Ensure availability of emergency drugs in crash cart.
- Provide patient counselling regarding dosage and precautions.
- Monitor look-alike and sound-alike (LASA) medicines carefully.
- Follow infection control practices in pharmacy area.
- Maintain daily temperature log of refrigerator and pharmacy area.
- Participate in medication error reporting and pharmacovigilance.
- Coordinate with doctors and nursing staff regarding drug availability.
- Ensure compliance with NABH and statutory requirements.
- Assist in internal audits and inspections.
