GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION:
This position of West Crane Operator is responsible for all operating functions as listed below.
Running the crane must be understood in total with the focus of utilizing the equipment to meet
all the quality and productivity goals as outlined in our quality system.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Unload slabs from trucks.
2. Unload and load grinders in bay.
3. Unload slabs from Melt Shop Caster table and weigh each slab at caster scale in a timely
manner to Melt Shop Stoppages.
4. Pile scheduled campaigns for the Hot Rolling Mill.
5. Prepare slab for grinding including weights and work codes.
6. Visual check for defects on slabs.
7. Help inspection with temperature in ferritic and hot charging.
8. Stack slab bell covers and use as needed.
9. Load/unload weight scale for grinders.
10. Operator flip table.
11. Check scales at grinder with test weight.
12. Maintain 6S in the work area.
13. Miscellaneous: Performed as necessary
a. Follow all prescribed safety rules and JSA's
b. Housekeeping/Maintenance work assigned.
c. Swap caster crop buckets as needed.
14. Work with torch operator to ensure all slabs have proper identification before unloading
off runout.
15. Work with torch operator to complete cut slabs.
SUPPLEMENTAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

2. Participation in relevant continuous improvement programs.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of High School Degree or Equivalent (GED), basic computer skills, strong
communications skills.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES REQUIRED:- Mobility in plant
- While performing the duties of (this job), the employee is regularly required to sit, stand,
walk, etc.
- The employee is frequently required to make use of their hands for technical tasks
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Visual ability with or without correction
- Communication abilities

Some areas may require additional personal protective equipment such as:
e. Respirators; the respirator requires you to be clean shaven in order to comply with
company policies and procedures as well as OSHA Regulations.
f. Fire Retardant clothing
g. Acid PPE
5. Report to the Safety Coordinator, Group Lead or Supervisor any contravention of the
Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations or Company policy
6. Must follow all Lock out Tag out (LOTO) guidelines for designated machines
7. Must follow all Environmental Policies and Regulations
8. Maintain a clean and safe work area
