Guests come for weekend getaways, weddings, and business travel, and they stay because the experience feels personal in a way that larger, branded properties cannot easily replicate.
The General Manager of The Eugene Hotel is responsible for the complete operational, financial, and cultural performance of the property. This is a hands-on leadership role that requires equal parts hotelier, host, and businessperson. A successful candidate will own guest experience, lead and develop a tight-knit operating team, deliver against budget and forecast, build local market presence and relationships, and ensure that every detail of the property, from the lobby first impression to the last housekeeping touch, reflects the exceeds the Rival Hospitality Management's standards.
This General Manager will be visible, present, and engaged. They will know guests by name when they can, troubleshoot the unexpected with grace, and treat the property as if it were their own. They will represent The Eugene Hotel and Rival Hospitality Management in the Monroe community, building relationships with local businesses, the Chamber of Commerce, wedding planners, corporate accounts, and tourism partners across Green County and the surrounding region.
The General Manager owns the guest experience end to end. This includes setting and reinforcing service standards consistent with the boutique positioning, personally engaging with guests throughout each day. The General Manager will use guest feedback, online reputation data, and direct observation to continuously refine the experience and will model the warm, attentive, and refined hospitality the brand stands for.
The General Manager is accountable for delivering the property's annual budget across revenue, expenses, and net operating income. This includes daily collaboration with the Rival Hospitality Management corporate revenue management team on pricing strategy, rate movements, length-of-stay restrictions, and channel mix, as well as ownership of labor scheduling, expense management, vendor relationships, and capital improvement planning.
The Eugene Hotel competes primarily on its boutique character, downtown location, and personalized service rather than national brand recognition, which makes local market development essential. The General Manager will lead direct outreach to corporate accounts, wedding planners, group business sources, and tourism partner. The General Manager is the most visible representative of the hotel in the community and is expected to treat that role as central to the position rather than incidental.
The General Manager will recruit, hire, train, schedule, coach, and evaluate the on-property team across front desk, housekeeping, maintenance, and guest services. This includes working guest facing shifts to ensure the General Manager is the face of the property, conducting regular one-on-ones, delivering performance reviews, managing all corrective action, and creating a workplace culture that attracts and retains talented people in a tight regional labor market.
The General Manager is the on-property steward of a meticulously restored historic building. This includes day-to-day oversight of housekeeping standards, preventive maintenance, life safety and security, vendor performance, inventory and ordering, and the physical condition of guest rooms, public spaces, and back-of-house areas. The General Manager will conduct regular property inspections, maintain compliance with all health, safety, ADA, and regulatory requirements, and partner with ownership and corporate leadership on capital projects that protect and enhance the asset over time.
The General Manager will maintain full compliance with Rival Hospitality Management policies, federal and state employment law, Wisconsin Department of Revenue tax remittance, ADA requirements, and any applicable franchise or association standards. The General Manager is responsible for accurate and timely weekly and monthly reporting to corporate leadership; for participating in scheduled corporate calls and on-property visits; and for treating the corporate team as a true partner in the property's success.

The General Manager works primarily on-property at The Eugene Hotel in Monroe, Wisconsin. The role requires a flexible schedule that includes weekends, evenings, and holidays as the business demands, particularly during weddings, peak leisure weekends, and major community events. The General Manager must be able to stand and walk for extended periods, climb stairs, lift up to 40 pounds occasionally, and perform the full range of physical tasks associated with hands-on hotel operations.
