House Manager / Family Assistant

Part-Time | 20–40 Hours per Week | Bedford, NY Area

A busy, warm family looking for a highly organized, proactive, and trustworthy House Manager / Family Assistant to help keep our household running smoothly. This is a flexible, hands-on role for someone who enjoys creating order, anticipating needs, and helping a family stay organized day to day.

The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, calm, discreet, and comfortable jumping in wherever needed. This role is meant to help alleviate the daily household responsibilities that keep a family moving, from laundry and errands to kids’ supplies, household organization, appointments, pets, and occasional childcare.

This is a great fit for someone who takes pride in making a home feel calm, stocked, organized, and well-managed.

Household Management & Organization

  • Keep the household organized, stocked, and running efficiently
  • Maintain household systems including closets, pantry, mudroom, toys, storage areas, children’s items, and seasonal supplies
  • Monitor and restock household essentials including groceries, toiletries, paper goods, cleaning supplies, kids’ supplies, pet supplies, and pantry items
  • Handle errands, returns, exchanges, package drop-offs, donations, dry cleaning, and local pickups
  • Coordinate donation of old toys, clothing, shoes, and household items
  • Help with seasonal wardrobe changes for children, including clothes, shoes, coats, boots, sports gear, school items, and cubbies
  • Keep children’s cubbies, backpacks, shoes, outerwear, and daily supplies organized and ready
  • Assist with general tidying and resetting of high-traffic areas such as the kitchen, mudroom, play areas, bedrooms, and family spaces
  • Help keep the home “guest-ready” and prepared for guests, family events, or travel

Laundry, Kitchen & Meal Support

  • Wash, dry, fold, organize, and put away family laundry and linens
  • Help keep clothing, bedding, towels, and children’s wardrobes organized
  • Reset the kitchen, load/unload dishwasher, wipe counters, organize fridge/pantry, and help maintain a clean daily flow
  • Assist with simple meal prep, snacks, school lunches, reheating meals, or basic family cooking as needed
  • Help with grocery lists, grocery shopping, food ordering, and kitchen restocking

Family Assistant Duties

  • Assist with family calendar management, reminders, appointments, school forms, applications, and scheduling
  • Help coordinate doctor visits, dentist appointments, children’s activities, camps, classes, school paperwork, and family logistics
  • Assist with travel planning, packing, unpacking, trip preparation, and making sure the family has what they need before leaving
  • Help research and book activities, appointments, resources, or services as needed
  • Coordinate with household vendors and service providers such as cleaners, repair people, landscapers, maintenance workers, and other household support

Childcare Support

  • Occasional school pickups, drop-offs, or transportation for children
  • Occasional babysitting, including some nights and weekends for date nights or parent coverage
  • Help parents during busy periods, schedule changes, sick days, or times when extra hands are needed
  • Maintain a warm, safe, and supportive presence around young children

Pet, Animal & Property Support

  • Help manage pet supplies, feeding logistics, vet appointments, medications, and general pet care coordination
  • Comfortable around dogs, cats and farm animals
  • Potential light assistance with farm animals on the property, especially while the family is away
  • Occasional house-sitting, overnight coverage, or property oversight when the family travels

Ideal Candidate

  • Prior experience as a House Manager, Family Assistant, Nanny/Household Assistant, Personal Assistant, or similar role preferred
  • Naturally organized and detail-oriented
  • Proactive and able to notice what needs to be done without constant direction
  • Comfortable with a flexible, “pitch in where needed” household role
  • Warm, trustworthy, reliable, and professional
  • Comfortable around young children, pets, and farm animals
  • Able to maintain confidentiality and discretion
  • Strong communication skills
  • Comfortable using basic technology, calendars, lists, texting, online ordering, and scheduling tools
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required
  • References required

Schedule

  • Part-time, approximately 20–40 hours per week
  • Flexible schedule
  • Occasional evenings, weekends, overnights, or travel-period coverage may be requested with advance notice

Compensation

  • Competitive hourly pay based on experience

About the Role

This position is best suited for someone who genuinely enjoys helping a household run well. We are looking for someone who can take tasks off our plate, reduce the mental load of managing a busy family home, and help create a more organized, peaceful, and efficient environment.

The role will vary day to day. Some days may involve laundry, errands, kitchen reset, and organizing children’s clothes. Other days may involve appointments, returns, travel prep, pet logistics, or helping with the kids. Flexibility, trust, and a positive attitude are very important.

We are looking for someone who is dependable, kind, thoughtful, and willing to become a valued support person for our family.

Pay: $20.00 - $35.00 per hour
