HOUSEHOLD APPLIANCE MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

The Household Appliance Maintenance Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of domestic appliances in residential and commercial settings. This role requires strong technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and customer service excellence to ensure client satisfaction and appliance functionality in compliance with safety standards and manufacturer specifications.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Appliance Repair & Maintenance

• Diagnose malfunctions in household appliances including:
• Refrigeration: Refrigerators, freezers, chillers
• Laundry: Washing machines, dryers, ironing systems
• Kitchen: Ovens, stoves, cooktops, microwaves, dishwashers
• Climate: Air conditioners (split units), water coolers
• Small appliances: Blenders, water heaters, exhaust fans
• Perform repairs, part replacements, and preventive maintenance
• Test appliances for proper functioning post-repair
• Ensure compliance with manufacturer guidelines and warranty terms

2. Customer Service & Communication

• Communicate clearly with clients regarding issues, solutions, and costs
• Provide estimates and obtain approval before major repairs
• Educate clients on proper appliance usage and basic troubleshooting
• Maintain professional appearance and behavior during home visits
• Handle complaints and feedback professionally

3. Inventory & Tool Management

• Maintain and manage repair toolkit and diagnostic equipment
• Track and request spare parts inventory
• Ensure proper handling and storage of parts
• Manage company vehicle and equipment (if provided)

4. Safety & Compliance

• Follow electrical safety protocols and Qatar regulations
• Adhere to environmental guidelines for refrigerant handling (if certified)
• Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
• Ensure safe disposal of replaced parts and materials

5. Administrative Duties

• Complete service reports and job cards for each assignment
• Update maintenance logs and client history records
• Process invoices and collect payments (if required)
• Provide daily/weekly activity reports to supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Education:

• High School Diploma or equivalent (minimum)
• Technical diploma in Electrical, Mechanical, or Appliance Repair preferred
• EPA Section 608 Certification (for refrigeration repair) – optional but advantageous

Experience:

• Minimum 2–3 years hands-on experience repairing household appliances
• Experience with major brands (Samsung, LG, Bosch, Whirlpool, etc.)
• Field service experience with home visits preferred
• GCC/Qatar experience advantageous

Certifications (Preferred):

• Manufacturer-specific training certificates
• Electrical safety certification
• Refrigerant handling license (Qatar regulations)
• First Aid/CPR certification

TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIRED

Electrical Skills:

• Circuit testing and troubleshooting
• Motor and compressor diagnostics
• Control board and wiring repair
• Understanding of single-phase and three-phase power systems

Mechanical Skills:

• Disassembly and reassembly of complex appliances
• Belt, pulley, and bearing replacement
• Seal and gasket installation
• Lubrication and cleaning of mechanical parts

Diagnostic Skills:

• Using multimeters, clamp meters, leak detectors
• Interpreting error codes and technical manuals
• Identifying unusual sounds, smells, or performance issues

Specific Appliance Knowledge:

• Refrigeration cycles and refrigerant types
• Water valve and pump systems in washers/dishwashers
• Gas and electric heating elements in ovens/dryers
• Electronic control systems and touch panels

SOFT SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

• Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities
• Strong customer service orientation
• Clear communication in English (Arabic highly advantageous)
• Time management and punctuality
• Physical stamina for lifting and maneuvering appliances
• Honesty and integrity (working in client homes)
• Clean driving record (if driving company vehicle)
