We are seeking a Housekeeper/Child Care Provider to support the household with outstanding, detail-oriented housekeeping services and part-time child care (before/after school, occasional all-day care, occasional evening/weekend coverage) for one child, 12 years old. The parents are both busy professionals and are looking to find a long-term fit with a private service professional for the next 3+ years. While the housekeeping needs will generally require more hours, it is essential that candidates are an excellent fit for both the housekeeping and child care services required.
Housekeeping Services
Cleanliness and hygiene are very important in the household, therefore strong expectations are set in these areas. One member of the household has a manageable, but chronic health condition (not contagious, or even visibly noticeable) that necessitates an extremely hygienic home environment be maintained at all times to minimize risk of common infections (e.g. cold, flu). The home environment must also be kept free of strong scents and odors (e.g. perfumes, strong food odors). Examples of hygienic practices required include proper handwashing (personal, after cleaning, after handling dirty laundry/dishes or trash, before handling clean laundry) and routinely disinfecting handles, light switches, drawer/cabinet pulls, etc. In the employers’ experience, the ideal situation is when candidates personally prioritize cleanliness/hygiene so there is a natural compatibility (as opposed to candidates who don't personally prioritize similar standards & then have to learn and force new habits). Housekeeping responsibilities are listed below.
General cleaning
Laundry
Dishes (mostly dishwasher safe)
Light food prep
Organizational projects
Other duties as needed
Minimal pet care (2 cats… so no dog-walking!)
Child Care Services
Child care needs will include before/after school care during the school year, coordination of summer camps/activities in the summer, occasional all-day care throughout year (days off school/in-between summer camps), and occasional evening/weekend child care (date nights, etc). Before-school care includes preparing a light breakfast, gathering all school and after-school materials/supplies needed, preparing a packed lunch, and providing transportation to school in the mornings (nearby to our home). After-school care includes transportation home from school, preparing a light afternoon snack, keeping child on track regarding: homework, chores, and misc. responsibilities. In the summers, child-care includes coordination and transportation for summer camps/activities and general support as described above as needed (meal prep, keeping child on track with responsibilities, etc). Ensuring the child’s safety must always be the paramount priority.
Communication & Style
The employers are seeking a candidate that appreciates direct communication and feedback. They do have specific standards and preferences and seek a candidate that is willing to meet the requirements set forth, participate comfortably in two-way direct communication, and follow through on meeting expectations without feeling micro-managed. While the standards are high, the employers have an easy-going, personable style and understand that mistakes will be made occasionally. They are looking for a wonderful private service professional who is willing to commit to the position for the foreseeable future. They are hoping to develop a mutually respectful and highly trustworthy relationship with their new employee.
Requirements:
Must have previous experience working in a private household
Must be extremely professional, responsible and reliable
Must have excellent references
Must be certified in child CPR/first aid or be willing to get certified
Must have excellent driving record and reliable transportation
Must consistently demonstrate attention to detail, especially when it comes to cleanliness and hygiene
No smoking of any kind
Employment will be contingent on criminal background, driving record and credit history checks
School-Year Schedule:
Monday-Friday
7:00 AM-4:30 PM
Paid 30 minute lunch & two 15-minute breaks
Summer Schedule:
Monday-Friday
8:00 AM-5:30 PM
Important Note: Candidates must have flexibility to shift schedule as needed when child's schedule requires a change (e.g. during volleyball season, there could be two evening practices a week). Of course, we will discuss changes in advance and collaborate with employee to agree on needed shifts. For example, we could discuss a later start time when a later end time is required.
Travel: Yes. The family plans to travel 1-2 times per year. Candidate may be asked to travel with the family to provide both child care and housekeeping support. Of course, all expenses would be paid and candidate would be given personal time while traveling as well.
Benefits: 8 paid holidays & 10 days PTO
