Housekeeper and/or Cook/Cook's Helper

Job Summary
We are seeking several dedicated and detail-oriented Housekeepers, Cooks, and Cook's Helpers to join our team. HOUSEKEEPER

  • Housekeeping/Laundry staff are responsible for maintaining high standards of cleanliness and sanitation throughout the hospital. Reports to: Housekeeping Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Routinely cleans all areas of the hospital including, but not limited to, patient rooms, nursing units, surgical areas, administrative offices, laboratory areas, radiology areas, physical therapy areas, business office areas, waiting areas and public restrooms throughout the hospital using predefined cleaning methods and procedures.
  • Mix appropriate quantities of cleaning liquids and chemicals in accordance with state safety regulations.
  • Launder all hospital linen.
  • Using various cleaning chemicals and disinfectants, housekeepers wipe equipment, clean furniture, polish floors and vacuum carpets.
  • Make beds.
  • Appropriately dispose of medical waste products like syringes, hand gloves, face masks, sachets of tablets, etc.
  • Dispose of wastes in wastebaskets as well as clean the wastebaskets.
  • Dust furniture as well as equipment.
  • Respond to emergencies in relation to cleaning hospital environment.
  • Clean and wipe windows, floors, etc.
  • Collect dirty laundry from all patient areas and distribute the clean linen and hospital gowns back to the appropriate areas.
  • Ensure proper infection control policies are being followed.
  • Maintain a clean and organized storage area for cleaning equipment and supplies.
  • Strip and refinish floors as needed.
  • Documents on required worksheets as to when a job or task is completed.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Adhere to health and safety regulations and demonstrate good customer service skills.
  • High School graduate or equivalent preferred.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work is generally performed in an office or clinical environment with some exposure to infectious disease or hazardous working conditions.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prolonged periods of walking and standing with frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, and grasping in order to access and place supplies, set-up traction and clean unit facilities.
  • Heavy lifting and moving will be required on occasion.
  • Must be able to physically lift up to 70 lbs.

DIETARY COOK

  • To serve attractive, well prepared and nutritional meals, in the most efficient manor to patient and personnel, according to current nutritional principles while adhering to sanitation and safety standards. Reports to Dietary Director.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Prepares and directs preparation for all foods indicated on menu for patient and personnel using standardized recipes based on standard portion sizes.
  • Prepares food and fills out production sheets.
  • Cooks a variety of foods following standardized recipes and methods of preparation.
  • Schedules food preparation so that vegetable and meat items will be ready by appointed time.
  • Estimates food requirements and controls serving portions, trying to eliminate waste and leftovers.
  • Standardizes and develops new recipes.
  • Screen patients to determine the level of nutrition intervention when Dietary Director is not present.
  • Purchase suitable food and non-food according to defined menu specifications or production needs in appropriate quantities to assure continuity of operations.
  • Instructs and supervises kitchen workers involved in food preparation.
  • Checks equipment and cooking area often making sure to maintain safety and meet sanitation requirements.
  • Perform complete nutritional assessments on all new patients within 24 hours of admission. Also perform assessments on those patients with changes, as necessary. This is done if Dietary Director is not present.
  • Reports any maintenance needs to his/her Supervisor/Director or directly to the Maintenance department if Supervisor/Director is not present.
  • Dietary cooks will fill out substitute sheets when any food item is changed on patient’s menu.
  • Run cash register and make change for coffee shop.
  • Perform assigned cleaning tasks.
  • Attend dietary in-services.
  • Know how to use a diet manual.
  • Do patient visitation and education of therapeutic diets if Supervisor/Director is not present.
  • Fill out monitors on respective shift and initial cleaning schedule.
  • Serves in coffee shop.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Food Handler’s permit required.
  • Must be able to run cash register and make change.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to physically lift up to 50 pounds.
  • All tasks require walking and standing.
  • Bends, lifts, carries, pushes, and handles items when performing duties.
  • Visual acuity for appraising appearance of food.

DIETARY COOK'S HELPER

  • Performs routine duties in connection with the preparation and serving of food. Reports to Dietary Director

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Cleans and prepares vegetables for cooking.
  • Prepares salads for coffee shop and for patients as indicated on patient and coffee shop menus.
  • Prepares food production sheet.
  • Makes sure cold foods are kept at a safe temperature and documents the temperatures on log sheet.
  • Know how to use a diet manual.
  • May be asked to help with patient menu.
  • Practices safe food handling.
  • Reports any maintenance needs to his/her Supervisor/Director or directly to the Maintenance department if Supervisor/Director is not present.
  • Places food items on grocery list when observes low inventory of stock.
  • Keeps walk-in refrigerators clean and makes sure prepared food is covered and labeled with dates.
  • Be ready to serve out patient meals when the cook is ready.
  • Operates simple machinery used in peeling, shredding, slicing, straining, and mixing various foods.
  • Mixes butter, butters bread, and cans bread for storing.
  • Prepares coffee and tea for use in employees' dining room and patient wards.
  • Busses dishes, trays, and food for dining rooms; loads, unloads, and cleans food carts, etc.
  • Operates or assists in operating a dishwasher, washing and sterilizing dishes, glassware, silverware or utensils, and washes pots, containers, etc.
  • Collects garbage and disposes of it by electric garbage disposal or removes it to loading area.
  • Washes trays, carts, refrigerators, etc.
  • Assists in receiving and storing warehouse deliveries.
  • May occasionally assist in light cooking, such as hot cakes, French toast, and eggs.
  • Pushes food carts.
  • Incidental to other duties, cleans kitchen work area, washes down walls and mops floors.
  • Attend dietary in-services.
  • Run cash register and make change for coffee shop.
  • Performs assigned cleaning tasks.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $9.50 - $10.00 per hour

Expected hours: No more than 40 per week
