Houseperson

Job Summary: The Houseperson plays a vital support role within the housekeeping department by maintaining cleanliness in public areas, delivering supplies to room attendants, handling guest requests, and assisting with laundry and room preparation. This role ensures that the hotel environment remains clean, organized, and welcoming for both guests and staff. The ideal candidate is reliable, detail-oriented, and enjoys working on a team to keep operations running smoothly.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Assist room attendants by delivering linens, towels, amenities, and cleaning supplies.
• Remove trash and soiled linen from guest rooms and housekeeping carts.
• Replenish housekeeping closets and storage areas throughout the hotel.
• Clean and maintain lobby, hallways, stairwells, elevators, guest laundry areas, and other public spaces.
• Walk hotel grounds
• Wipe down windows, doors, walls, baseboards, and fixtures.
• Assist in the cleaning of guest rooms from time to time as assigned.
• Vacuum carpets, mop floors, and remove trash from public areas.
• Respond to guest service requests such as extra linens, rollaway beds, or luggage assistance.
• Deliver items to guest rooms promptly and courteously.
• Load/unload washers and dryers in support of laundry staff as needed.
• Fold, sort, and store clean linens as needed.
• Monitor and report maintenance or safety issues to the housekeeping supervisor.
• Follow all hotel policies and safety guidelines.
• Any additional duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility in a safe and satisfactory manner. The individual must be able to communicate effectively with coworkers and guests and have a neat appearance to represent hotel positively with guests. The individual must be punctual, have a good attendance record, and have reliable means of transportation to work.

Position type and expected hours of work: This is a full-time position. The typical shift for this position is 8:00am to 4:30pm

Work Environment: This job operates in a Hotel environment. Hotels can be a stressful environment that require frequent, pleasant communication with others, effectively deal with guests, and accept constructive feedback from supervisors. This job requires a person is able to change activity frequently and cope with interruptions. This role routinely uses cleaning chemicals and tools to clean guest rooms, public areas and food and beverage areas. Employees in this role are frequently exposed to hot water, potentially slippery floors, and cleaning chemicals and a variety of different food items. Employee must follow all chemical MSDS guidelines. Work involves considerable exposure to steam, dirt, dust, fumes, bacteria and odors. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. The employee may be exposed to hazards including, but are not limited to, cuts, slipping, tripping, falls and burns.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Required Education/Work Experience:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent (or actively enrolled)

Preferred Education/Work Experience:

• Prior hotel or janitorial experience
• Experience working in extended stay or select service hotel environment
• Knowledge of linen handling, chemical safety and proper use of housekeeping equipment
