Job Summary:

Performs the full range of assignments in the housing assistance program; and performs other related duties as required.

Examples of Duties:

The following are examples of duties and are not necessarily descriptive of any one position in this class. The omission of specific duties statements does not preclude management from assigning such duties if such duties are a logical assignment for the position. Interviews, counsels and provides overall assistance to applicants of housing projects. Reviews applications to determine eligibility for tenancy housing projects. Conducts special studies relative to the housing program as assigned. Reviews and determines tenant's share of rent and amount of subsidy for qualified applicants based on established guidelines. Provides information services and follow-up on owners ' and tenants ' complaints and appeals. Confers with representatives of the State Department of Human Services, Social Security Administration and other public and private agencies to verify applicants ' data. Inspects housing units in conformance with housing quality standards and prepares inspection reports citing deficiencies and recommending corrective measures. Attends meetings to explain the housing program to prospective tenants. Maintains records and prepares reports as required. Provides guidance and advice on procedural matters.

Minimum Qualifications:

Preferred Training and Experience:

A combination of education and experience substantially to graduation from an accredited college or university with a baccalaureate degree in business or public administration, economics, psychology, political science or a related field, and

two (2) years of professional work experience that involved advising and/or instructing the public concerning public assistance programs or processes, monitoring such programs, or performing participant eligibility reviews.

License Requirement:

Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator license (Hawaii Type 3 or equivalent).
