CENTER FOR DOMESTIC PEACE is a non-profit organization, founded in 1977, working at the county, state, and national level to end domestic violence. Center for Domestic Peace (C4DP) serves women, men, and youth who have been, and/or who are at risk of being, abused and/or battered, or who have perpetrated, and/or who are at risk of perpetrating, abuse, bullying, and/or battering. C4DP’s programs helping children, teens, women, and men to live violence-free lives include: 24-hour hotlines; emergency shelter; transitional housing; support groups; legal advocacy; school programs; community prevention and education projects; professional continuing education programs; corporate, state, and nation-wide trainings; leadership development programs; and resource identification.
POSITION OVERVIEW: Directly reporting to the Transitional Housing Program Director, the Housing Coordinator plays a crucial role in supporting residents with case management, advocacy, and support on their journey to healing and self-sufficiency. The ideal candidate for this position is an energetic individual, with the ability to work collaboratively with a team, and with experience assisting survivors of domestic violence to secure housing. The position will provide mobile advocacy services by driving to meet with residents at any of C4DP’s workplace sites, housing facilities, or alternative locations. Additionally, the Housing Coordinator will provide program support through the facilitation of empowerment groups and other technical/administrative work to support the organization's needs. Driving in the employee’s own vehicle is required with reimbursement provided for mileage, parking and cell phone stipend, if eligible.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
These are core functions of the job. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.
- Demonstrate commitment to the organization’s purpose and values;
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of Second Step resident needs and strengths, focusing on housing and related support requirements.
- Assist survivors in locating and securing safe and affordable housing options following term of transitional housing.
- Provide guidance and support with all related documents needed for Section 8 housing applications, leases, and budgeting for housing costs.
- Maintain relationships with landlords and housing authorities to ensure the availability of suitable housing options.
- Provide information and referrals to community resources, including legal services, counseling, and social services.
- Maintain detailed and confidential case files, documenting interactions, assessments, and services provided;
- Prepare regular progress reports on survivors’ transition plans and outcomes.
- Advocate for survivors’ rights and needs within the community and with relevant agencies.
- Collaborate with local housing organizations, service providers, and government agencies to expand housing options for survivors.
- Provide administrative support to the Second Step team, including Program Director and Economic Empowerment & Housing Specialist
- Track resident participation and assist with outreach to increase participation.
- Maintain daily statistics of Housing Programs to foster staff awareness of program vacancies, financial assistance availability and contribute to collection and input of data needed for progress reporting.
- Maintain and exercise cultural awareness and sensitivity to diversity.
- Attend staff, department meetings, and participate in community and special events as schedule permits.
- Stay current with knowledge on grant parameters, available funds, allowable expenditures and maintain program record-keeping in accordance with funding requirements.
- Offer program assistance to the CYCP division by facilitating empowerment support groups, along with delivering both technical and administrative support
- Ability to work a consistent schedule.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bilingual Spanish speaking preferred but not required.
- Requires BA or 2-4 years relevant educational training and/or experience.
- Experience coordinating housing services for domestic violence survivors and their children, with previous work in housing search and placement, section 8 applications, landlord/tenant outreach highly desired.
- Demonstrated competence with program coordination, including but not limited to training, public speaking, facilitation, collaboration, detailed program planning and timely implementation.
- Strong proven ability to: mediate differences of philosophy and opinion; maintain calm, efficient, and collaborative approach to work while managing competing priorities in a fast-paced, highly productive work environment, work independently and as a team member; think critically and with foresight, carry out assignments with limited direction, adapt to change, and be nimble and flexible.
- Completion of mandated 40-hour Domestic Violence Counselor training (post-employment)
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Experience providing tech training and support to beginner tech users navigating Housing Authority and other technical applications highly desired.
- Familiar with resources for domestic violence victims and their children in Marin County.
- Experience working with culturally diverse populations, primarily African American and Latinx women.
- Desire to empower families from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
- Experience, ability, and willingness to communicate with and value staff and participants from diverse range of racial, cultural, and economic backgrounds with various language capabilities, religious beliefs, lifestyles, sexual orientations and identifies, age variance and abilities.
- Intermediate computer skills: comfortable with Office 365 applications including SharePoint and OneDrive collaborations and storage, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook calendar, Asana, and Zoom platforms.
- Experience in data entry and use of Salesforce preferred.
- Demonstrated cultural awareness skills with the ability to build a common agenda with people from different cultures than your own.
- Resourcefulness, flexibility, self-motivation, and ability to inspire enthusiasm, and participation while adhering to program protocols and maintaining professional boundaries.
- Sensitivity and understanding of the issues of domestic violence and feminist principles; racial/gender equity and other oppressions, alignment with Center for Domestic Peace’s Statement of Purpose and organizational philosophy.
- Available for some evening and weekend hours.
- Must meet screening requirements, which includes criminal justice clearance and fingerprinting as required by C4DP.
- Valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and vehicle required along with personal auto insurance that meets the minimum liability insurance requirements in California; must be able to travel independently between multiple work sites within a day.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Candidate must be able to lift to 30 pounds.
- Ability to move within the office environment and ability to climb stairs.
- Ability to write by hand and use a keyboard to perform general office functions.
- Ability to communicate continuously by speech and hearing.
- Visual acuity (close, distant, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus and view accurate color perception and objects at near distances) needed for detail work and computer use.

- Position requires driving your own vehicle whenever necessary to meet program needs.
