HR Generalist

FORT VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY (FVSU), a state and land-grant institution of the University System of Georgia, invites applications for the position of HR Generalist

JOB SUMMARY:

This position performs general human resources duties in support of department operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Inputs and maintains employee information in computerized HR databases and systems.
• Coordinates and facilitates new employee orientation programs.
• Advises employees on personnel-related issues, policies, and procedures.
• Assists in recruitment activities for staff and/or faculty, including posting positions and monitoring the hiring process.
• Supports personnel action processing through Manager Self Service (MSS), ensuring accuracy and timely completion.
• Assists with benefits-related actions, including enrollments, changes, and inquiries.
• Coordinates the annual performance review process for staff and faculty, ensuring compliance with institutional timelines.
• Reviews and processes requests for reclassifications and/or compensation adjustments.
• Completes exit interviews and assists with the employee offboarding process.
• Maintains departmental HR records in accordance with institutional and regulatory requirements.
• Provides administrative support, including monitoring workflow and preparing HR documentation.
• Monitors HR e-forms and email communications to ensure timely responses and follow-up.
• Reviews, analyzes, and prepares regular HR data reports to support decision-making and compliance.
• Participates in special projects and performs other HR-related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in a course of study related to the occupational field required.
• Three years of related experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree and five years of related experience

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

• Knowledge of office policies and procedures, basic computer operations and software.
• Knowledge of spreadsheets, databases, and word processing.
• Knowledge of HR procedures, policies, and activities.
• Effective time management, customer service, and organizational skills.
• Effective oral and verbal communication with external and internal customers.
• Ability to multi-task, supervise, train staff, and pay attention to detail.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The Chief Human Resources Officer assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy and the nature and propriety of the final results.

GUIDELINES

Guidelines include university and department policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

• The work consists of varied human resources duties. Frequent interruptions contribute to the complexity of the position.
• The purpose of this position is to provide services to university and external customers in matters related to human resources operations. Success in this position contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of department operations.
