The Human Resources (HR) Generalist supports the mission and strategic priorities of the University by delivering comprehensive HR services across the employee lifecycle. This position serves as a key point of contact for faculty, staff, and supervisors on a wide range of HR matters, ensuring compliance with applicable federal and state employment laws, University policies, and best practices in higher education. The HR Generalist/Business Partner balances hands-on HR administration with consultative partnership, helping leaders and employees foster an inclusive, engaged, and high-performing campus community.
Essential Functions
Employee Relations & Partnership

Serve as a trusted advisor to supervisors, faculty, and staff on employee relations, performance management, and workplace concerns.

Provide guidance on policies, procedures, and best practices, ensuring consistency, fairness, and alignment with the University’s mission and values.

Partner with academic and administrative leaders to anticipate workforce needs and develop proactive HR solutions.
Recruitment & Onboarding

Manage full-cycle recruitment for staff and selected faculty positions, including job postings, applicant screening, interviewing, and hiring processes.

Work in partnership with HR Coordinator to refresh and deliver new employee orientation and onboarding, ensuring a welcoming and efficient transition into the University community.
HR Operations & Compliance

Support daily HR operations, including HRIS data entry and reporting, personnel transactions, and recordkeeping.

Serves as backup for payroll.

Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment regulations (e.g., FLSA, ADA, FMLA, Title VII, VESSA, and state-specific laws).

Conduct exit interviews and prepare related documentation.
Benefits & Leave Administration

Provide employees with information on benefit programs, policies, and enrollment.

Assist with leave administration, including FMLA, ADA accommodations, and other approved leaves.

Respond to and process unemployment claims.
Training & Development

Support the design and delivery of training programs on topics such as compliance, performance management, and workplace culture.

Identify professional development opportunities to strengthen supervisory and employee capabilities.
Culture & Engagement

Champion initiatives that promote inclusion and belonging in the workplace.

Partner with campus leaders to foster employee engagement, recognition, and retention.
Other Duties

Assist with special projects, HR communications, and University initiatives as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required.

3–5 years of progressive HR experience in generalist, partner, or related roles.
Preferred Qualifications:

HR certification (SHRM CP, PHR, SPHR) preferred.

Collective Bargaining Agreement experience a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Strong knowledge of HR principles, practices, and compliance requirements.

Ability to build effective relationships at all levels of the organization and handle sensitive matters with discretion.

Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Proficiency with HRIS systems (ADP or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite.
