Human Resources Generalist

Location: St. Michael, MN

Salary Range: $70,000-$100,000 | Experience: 3–5 years | Reports To: Vice President


About the Role:
We’re looking for an experienced HR Generalist to support our field and office teams. This role manages day-to-day HR operations including employee relations, benefits administration, compliance, and recruiting. The ideal candidate is a hands-on professional who understands the fast-paced, project-driven nature of construction work and can balance compliance with practical HR support.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a trusted HR contact for field supervisors, project managers, and employees on HR policies, procedures, and employment law issues.
  • Administer employee benefits (health, dental, vision, 401(k), life, disability, etc.) and coordinate annual open enrollment.
  • Ensure compliance with EEO, FMLA, ADA, OSHA, wage & hour, and other employment laws.
  • Support employee relations, investigations, and performance management with fairness and consistency.
  • Maintain HRIS and personnel files, ensuring accurate data and confidentiality.
  • Participate in recruiting, onboarding, and offboarding for both field and office positions.
  • Generate HR reports and respond to compliance audits (EEO, benefits, certified payroll, etc.).
  • Provide training and communication to managers and employees on anti-harassment, discrimination prevention, and inclusion.
  • Partner with managers to identify workforce needs and ensure compliance with hiring procedures.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business, or related field.
  • 3–5 years of HR generalist experience, preferably in construction or trades.
  • Working knowledge of employment laws and benefits administration.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • PHR or SHRM-CP certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of multi-state employment laws and union environments a plus.


Work Environment

This position operates in both office and field environments. Occasional travel to job sites may be required to support field employees, conduct training, or perform audits.
