HR Generalist / Payroll Specialist

About the Role
We are seeking a dependable and detail-oriented HR Generalist / Payroll Specialist to support the daily operations of a monastery and seminary community rooted in the Benedictine tradition.
This position is primarily focused on payroll. The right candidate will take ownership of payroll processing and bring consistency, accuracy, and reliability to this function, while also providing day-to-day HR support.

We use Paychex for payroll processing.
What You Will Do
Payroll (Primary Responsibility)
- Process bi-weekly payroll accurately and on time using Paychex
- Maintain payroll records, timecards, and employee updates
- Review payroll for errors and ensure accuracy before submission
- Handle routine payroll changes such as pay adjustments and deductions
- Respond to employee questions related to pay
HR Support (Secondary)
- Maintain employee personnel files with accuracy and confidentiality
- Assist with onboarding (new hire paperwork, basic orientation)
- Support benefits enrollment and answer basic employee questions
- Track employee changes such as status updates and terminations
- Assist Director of Human Resources with special projects as needed
General Support
- Keep records organized and up to date
- Provide simple reports when needed
- Work with leadership and administrative staff to keep processes running smoothly
What We Are Looking For
- Prior payroll experience required (Paychex strongly preferred)
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work independently and meet regular deadlines
- Comfort handling confidential information with discretion
- Basic understanding of payroll deductions and taxes
- Experience supporting HR functions such as onboarding or benefits is helpful
