HR Intern

From college students and early-career engineers to project managers, corporate executives, researchers and academic leaders, ASME's members are as diverse as the engineering community itself.

ASME is seeking a HR Intern (undergraduate or graduate) who is passionate about furthering the employee experience through enhanced training, professional development and workplace inclusion organization wide.

The HR Intern will have the opportunity to assist with various tasks and projects within our Human Resources department and gain hands-on experience supporting key functions related to learning and development, onboarding, talent management, and Inclusion & Culture Initiatives. Responsibilities include assisting with items such as:

  • Administering our Learning Management System (LMS), Performance Management System, and other talent development software and content management tools.
  • Supporting the development and organization of our onboarding strategy
  • Tracking Talent Development KPIs to enhance our training and development efforts.
  • Managing training requests and generate/share training reports
  • Creating and assigning learning paths
  • Administration of enterprise-wide training by assisting with design, scheduling, and sending post training documents and surveys.
  • Gathering and mapping employee skills data while identifying skill gaps and strengths across departments by analyzing collected data.
  • Tracking participation, feedback and compiling survey results for our mentoring program, as well as supporting the organization at kickoff, mid-cycle, and closing sessions.
  • Planning, coordination, and execution of Inclusion & Culture efforts, including Employee Resource Group (ERG) initiatives and updating the intranet site.
  • Researching and creating Inclusion & Culture resources and materials to support ASME’s internal staff and external members and volunteers.

To qualify for consideration, candidates must be enrolled in an accredited college or university working toward a degree (Associate’s, Bachelor’s or Master’s) in Organizational Development, Applied Psychology, Education, Communications, Human Resources, or a related discipline. Prior internship experience in an office setting preferred. Position requires working knowledge of adult learning and training principles, proficiency in all Microsoft Office Applications and demonstrated excellence in the following:

  • Verbal and written communication skills and a professional demeanor
  • Analytical skills with a solution-oriented, streamlined approach
  • Organizational skills, detail orientation and ability to prioritize tasks despite competing priorities
  • Ability to work well independently or collaboratively as part of a team
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) preferred

This role is eligible for a remote work arrangement. This is anticipated as an eight-month assignment, and the candidate is expected to be available 20 hours per work week. Annual base salary may vary based on geographic location. The New York metro salary range for this position is estimated to be between $20-$22 per hour.
