Position Summary

The HR Manager is responsible for managing all HR functions within our GMI Michigan Facility, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and company policies, and is the business partner for department managers and the go-to person for all employee-related issues in our Michigan location. This position manages activities such as job design, overseeing recruitment, employee relations, performance management, training and development, compensation and benefits, and HR administration. The HR Manager will work closely with senior management to develop and implement HR strategies that align with the company's goals and values and is responsible for assessing and then speaking to the pulse of the company in HR Policy, Process Implementation, Culture, and People Matters, and proposing actionable solutions and managing their implementation. This position reports to the HR Director and supervises the Recruiter/ HR Assistant in Michigan.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Administrative:

  • Oversee HR administrative tasks, including maintaining accurate employee records and HR databases.
  • Ensure timely completion of HR paperwork and documentation, such as employment contracts, benefits enrollment forms, performance evaluations, corrective action and disciplinary forms, EDD, OSHA, and Workers Compensation documentation/ reporting, etc.
  • Review HR reports and metrics prepared by HR assistants, supervisors/ managers for accuracy and completeness.
  • Provide guidance and training on HR administrative processes and procedures to HR assistants, supervisors, and managers.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Utilize and maximize the features and use of the company HRIS system.

Customer Service:

  • Serve as a point of contact for employees and managers regarding HR-related inquiries and issues.
  • Address employee grievances and resolve conflicts in a timely and professional manner.
  • Promote a positive work culture and employee engagement initiatives to enhance the employee experience.
  • Collaborate with the HR assistant, supervisors, and managers to deliver excellent customer service in all HR interactions.
  • Communicate with departments/managers to facilitate daily activities.

Organizational:

  • Lead recruitment efforts, working with HR assistants to attract top talent and ensure a seamless onboarding process.
  • Oversee performance management activities, including goal setting, performance reviews, and feedback sessions.
  • Develop and implement tools for training programs to support employee development, culture, and organizational goals.
  • Manage compensation and benefits administration, ensuring competitive and equitable compensation packages.
  • Work with senior management to develop and implement HR strategies that align with the company's mission and values.
  • Monitor HR operations to ensure compliance with all legal requirements and company policies.
  • Utilize and schedule time effectively by understanding the weekly workload and needs of other departments and incorporating them into your own schedule to prevent lulls in day-to-day activities. Well organized and able to multitask.
  • All other duties as assigned by the HR Director.

Qualification/ Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Proven experience as an HR Manager or in a similar role, with at least 5 years of experience in HR management.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build effective relationships with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • HR certification (e.g., SHRM, PHR, SPHR) is a plus.
  • Exceptional written and spoken English.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

Most of the work is computer-based; the primary job will be in an office environment within our warehouse and processing facilities. This is a farm, but you are expected to dress for the role. This does mean you may need to wear collared shirts, slacks, etc., on occasion, business casual; instead, the dress is casual, with the requirement to wear closed-toed shoes, long pants, and no perfume, makeup, or jewelry.
