HR/Payroll Senior Analyst

This is an opportunity to join Segal as a HR/Payroll Senior Analyst (Senior Associate).

The HR/Payroll Senior Analyst is an exempt professional role that offers an opportunity to learn and apply specialized knowledge of payroll administration, HR operations, and employment practices to analyze data, interpret policy, and then advise on matters of significance. The HR/Payroll Senior Analyst will exercise independent judgment in evaluating complex HR and payroll information, ensuring compliance, and recommending solutions that strengthen organizational effectiveness and reduce risk. This position requires a high attention to detail.

The HR/Payroll Senior Analyst supports both daily operations and long‑term initiatives by transforming data into actionable insights and maintaining the accuracy, consistency, and integrity of HR and payroll processes. This role also contributes to cross‑functional collaboration, and continuous improvement efforts that enhance the employee experience, promote operational excellence, and support the organization’s strategic goals

This position reports to the Vice President, Director of Human Resources and is based in the New York office, offering a flexible hybrid work schedule.

Key responsibilities include but may not be limited to…

Payroll Analytics

  • Analyze payroll data and employment transactions to ensure accuracy, regulatory compliance, and alignment with internal processes
  • Interpret payroll rules and employment practices to resolve complex or non‑routine payroll matters
  • Evaluate payroll variances, trends, and anomalies; prepare analytical summaries and recommendations for leadership review
  • Serve as an internal advisor on payroll‑related questions requiring interpretation, judgment, or escalation
  • Calculate and process payrolls to ensure timely and accurate paychecks

HR Data Analytics

  • Apply analytical and professional judgment compensation data to support HR decision‑making, audits, and compliance
  • Govern employee data integrity across HRIS and payroll systems, determining appropriate actions when discrepancies or exceptions arise
  • Support HR lifecycle events requiring interpretation of policy, guidelines, or precedent (e.g., promotions, compensation changes, terminations)
  • Translate payroll and HR needs into data insights, reports, and recommendations

Compliance, Controls & Risk Analysis

  • Apply specialized knowledge of payroll and employment practices to identify compliance risks and control gaps
  • Support internal and external audits through professional analysis, documentation, and issue resolution
  • Recommend enhancements to controls, processes, or documentation based on risk and trend analysis

Process & Systems Expertise

  • Evaluate HR and payroll processes using professional standards and best practices; recommend improvements to efficiency, accuracy, and scalability
  • Contribute subject‑matter expertise to HRIS and payroll system enhancements, testing, and implementations

Qualifications

  • 2 plus years of experience applying professional judgment in HR operations, payroll analysis, HRIS, or workforce analytics.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Specialized knowledge of payroll administration, employment practices, and HR operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data, interpret requirements, and recommend appropriate courses of action.
  • Proficiency in Excel and reporting tools; experience designing or refining reports and analyses.
  • Proficiency with HRIS or payroll systems, including the ability to troubleshoot issues, support configuration changes, or participate in system upgrades.
  • Strong commitment to data integrity, confidentiality, and internal controls when handling sensitive employee information.
  • Effective professional communication skills, including the ability to explain complex concepts to non‑technical audiences.

The current salary range for this position is $90,000-$95,000 plus opportunity for a discretionary performance bonus based on company profitability and employee performance.
