Position Term and Funding:
This position is grant-funded and is currently expected to end on September 30, 2026. Continuation beyond this date is contingent upon the organization securing additional funding to support ongoing services. If no additional funding is obtained, September 30, 2026, will serve as the official end date of the position. There is a potential, but not yet approved, extension of up to 9 months (through June 30, 2027), depending on funding availability and approval.
Job Summary: The HTS Housing Specialist provides survivor-centered housing support and advocacy to individuals who have experienced or are at risk of human trafficking. This role focuses on increasing access to short-term housing options, supporting housing stability, and addressing barriers to safe housing. The Housing Specialist serves as a trusted partner, offering trauma-informed, culturally responsive services to help clients achieve safety, stability, and long-term self-sufficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage directly with victims of human trafficking to identify housing needs and priorities
- Conduct housing needs assessment and complete forms in compliance with project requirements.
- Act as client advocate in securing appropriate housing, including client-driven housing searches and outreach to available units.
- Facilitate rental agreements with landlords and ensure clients understanding of rental agreements, housing policies and procedures.
- Assist clients with money management and issues with roommates or landlords.
- Respond to emergency needs or care of clients in crisis situations as needed
- Monitor services by routinely checking in and meeting with clients to follow up on progress on individualized service plan.
- Connect clients to in-house and community resources that address their individualized needs
- Work in collaboration with community service providers to expedite services for clients.
- Monitor housing-related funds utilized to support clients in their housing stability; keep documentation of each instance of assistance
- Develop rapport and communication with both property managers and program clients.
- Build relationships with landlords, property managers, and housing authorities.
- Maintain working knowledge of all in-house housing programs, forms, and requirements, and coordinate with housing team/programs to provide a seamless experience for victims of trafficking.
- Represent HTS department at housing related meetings in the community.
- Provide supportive services to enrolled clients and individuals at high risk of trafficking at the drop-in center at least twice per month.
- Conduct outreach, education, presentations, and public awareness activities as assigned.
- Comply with all record keeping (i.e. case notes, client forms, etc.) requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, or related field preferred, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience working with survivors of human trafficking, violence, or other vulnerable populations.
- Strong oral and written communication skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in crisis situations.
- Demonstrated empathy and commitment to trauma-informed, survivor-centered care.
- Strong client service and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to maintain professionalism and composure in high-stress environments.
- Valid driver’s license, reliable personal vehicle, current auto insurance, good driving record, and ability to pass a background check required.
- Disclosure or non-disclosure of lived experience of human trafficking is welcomed and respected.
Preferred Qualifications
- Social Service Worker (SSW) license.
- Fluency in Spanish and English preferred but not required.
