Othello Community Hospital is a full-service, critical access hospital located in Othello, Washington. Open 24/7, it provides both impatient and outpatient care to the surrounding Adams County community with a strong commitment to accessible, high-quality healthcare.

OPEN POSITION:
Human Resources Assistant (Medical Staff Coordinator Backup Coverage)

The Human Resources Assistant provides day-to-day Human Resources support in a small rural hospital environment and is cross-trained to provide backup coverage for Medical Staff Coordinator functions as needed. This role assists with employee onboarding, personnel records, benefits administration, compliance tracking, and daily HR operations while maintaining confidentiality and supporting a positive workplace culture. This position supports employee and provider onboarding, maintains compliance with regulatory requirements, and assists with administrative operations. The role requires flexibility, strong attention to detail, and a collaborative, service-oriented approach.

  • Location: Othello Community Hospital, Othello, WA
  • Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm
  • Status: Full-Time, Benefit Earning
  • Hours: 40hrs/Week
  • Wage Range: $24.33-$44.07

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Human Resources Support (Primary Job Responsibilities)

  • Assist with employee onboarding, including pre-employment screenings, background

checks, I-9 verification, orientation coordination, and first-day support

  • Maintain employee personnel files (electronic and paper) with accuracy and

confidentiality, scan all documentation to electronic employee files, including

employment contracts

  • Facilitates new hire orientations, scheduling new employees for orientation, and prepares

new hire paperwork

  • Support benefits administration, contact benefit earning employees, including

enrollments, life events, terminations, and employee questions

  • Assist with payroll preparation, timekeeping review, and employee status changes
  • Serve as a front-line HR contact for employees, responding to routine inquiries and

directing concerns appropriately

  • Assist with recruitment activities, including job postings, interview coordination, and

candidate communication

  • Handles employment application intake, processes and tracks employment applications

for internal and external candidates using the HR module in UKG

  • Prepare HR correspondence such as offer letters, employment verifications, policy

acknowledgments, send correspondence to applicants and interviewees, and status change

notices

  • Support compliance with state, federal, and healthcare regulations (FMLA, PFMLA,

COBRA, HIPAA, OSHA, etc.)

  • Assist with daily duties in HR as needed, order supplies, maintain HR bulletin board,

maintain benefit packets for benefit earning employees

  • Assist with preparation of annual benefits renewal and benefit fair
  • Other duties as assigned by HR Director

Medical Staff Coordinator Backup Coverage (As Needed)

  • Provide backup support for medical staff credentialing and privileging processes,

manages the appointments, reappointments, and clinical privilege process for physicians

and allied health professionals, ensuring they meet all standards during backup coverage

as needed

  • Assist with provider onboarding documentation when primary coverage is unavailable or

during peak workload periods

  • Assist with provider onboarding, including collection and tracking of licensure,

certifications, DEA registrations, immunizations, and required documentation

  • Maintain database with accurate and update all staff credentials, including licensing,

certifications when providing backup coverage

  • Maintain medical staff files in compliance with hospital bylaws, accreditation standards,

and regulatory requirements when providing coverage

  • Support medical staff committee meetings, including preparation of agendas, minutes,

and tracking of approvals when providing coverage

  • Support reappointment tracking and OPPE/FPPE documentation during backup coverage

periods

  • Coordinate with providers and leadership to ensure continuity of medical staff processes

and act as a central point of contact between medical staff, administration, nursing staff

and outside agencies when serving in a coverage role

  • Assist with payer enrollments submits applications to insurance payers Medicare,

Medicaid, L&I

  • Maintain recredentialing for insurances when providing coverage
  • Other job duties as assigned by HR Director

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of human resources practices; familiarity with medical staff

coordination processes are a plus

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize and shift focus during coverage periods
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills with employees and providers
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and professionalism
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Publisher) and HR/credentialing

systems: UKG Ready (Kronos) is highly desired

  • Willingness to cross-train and provide backup coverage as operationally needed

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent of education or experience required, Associate’s

degree in Human Resources, Healthcare Administration, or related field preferred

  • 2-3 years of administrative or HR experience preferred
  • Healthcare or rural hospital experience preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk throughout the workday
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally
  • Regular use of computers, phones, and standard office equipment

Work Environment

  • Small rural hospital setting with close collaboration across departments
  • Frequent interaction with staff, providers, and leadership
  • Schedule flexibility may be required during coverage or staffing gaps
