The HR Business Partner collaborates closely with the leadership team and the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) to understand and implement the organization’s human resource and talent strategy. This partnership is especially critical in addressing both current and future talent requirements, including recruiting, employee retention, and succession planning.
This role provides comprehensive support and guidance to management and staff, particularly when complex, specialized, or sensitive issues arise.
Responsibilities may include administering, coaching and executing routine tasks in delicate circumstances such as providing reasonable accommodation, investigating allegations of wrongdoing, and overseeing employee terminations.
The HR Business Partner also oversees employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations, working under the guidance of the CHRO.
The HR Business Partner is responsible for creating and implementing learning and development programs and initiatives that align with the company’s strategy and vision. These programs are designed to provide internal development opportunities for employees and are coordinated in partnership with the HR Team. Additionally, this position is responsible for scheduling and tracking Annual Professional Development Meetings for all UCC staff in coordination with the CHRO and the rest of the HR Team.
The role also facilitates and supports the Annual Performance Review process within the Performance Management system, including managing performance warnings and improvement plans.
The HR Business Partner partners with the HR team, as well as with managers, to oversee the talent acquisition process for key positions. This includes recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of qualified job applicants, particularly for managerial, exempt, and professional roles.
The role manages the onboarding and new hire process for all employees, including issuing new hire offers via email, entering new hire data into Paycom and SharePoint upon acceptance, and providing the first day of HR onboarding.
Additional responsibilities include initiating background checks and drug tests for all new hires reporting to Waukegan, managing the Summer Intern program and Associate Engineer Training Program for new graduates, and working directly with temporary agencies to fill positions at various locations.
The HR Business Partner also serves as a backup for the manufacturing location in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin.
The HR Business Partner ensures compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommends best practices. This includes reviewing and updating company policies and practices to maintain compliance. The role is responsible for filing reports such as EEO-1, VETS-100, Affirmative Action plan reporting, and other government-mandated reports.
The position oversees I-9 form review and completion, E-Verify for all new employees, document updates, and compliance.
Manages immigration and visa applications in coordination with outside legal counsel and the CHRO.
Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law is an important aspect of this role.
The HR Business Partner coordinates all leave of absence applications and the interactive process in collaboration with Payroll and the HR Team.
Manages the off-boarding process by entering relevant data into Paycom and SharePoint and conducting exit interviews.
This position handles benefit plan questions, open enrollment, new hire enrollment and administration in coordination with the HR and Payroll team.
Manages all HR personnel files, including their creation and content, as well as other confidential files.
The HR Business Partner is responsible for managing new hire and annual anti-harassment training programs and tracking completion, as well as other new hire training programs required for specific positions.
The role also manages and tracks all tuition reimbursement applications and processes tuition reimbursement requests for CHRO approval.
Other Responsibilities
Additional duties include coordinating social activities for the Waukegan location, such as holiday parties, philanthropy drives (e.g., United Way), and flu shot clinics.
The HR Business Partner also performs other duties as assigned to support the HR function and organizational goals.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or related field required.
7+ years of human resource management experience preferred.
HR certification a plus.

Compensation and Benefits
Base Pay Range: $90,000 to $120,000 annual pay based on skills and experience
