Job Purpose
Under the guidance of the National Director of Human Resources Operations, the Human Resources Business Partner will serve as a vital member of the HR team responsible for fostering a positive and productive workplace environment. This role focuses heavily on employee relations and ensures HR practices align with our organization’s mission, values, and strategic goals. The HRBP will support various HR functions including onboarding, employee relations, performance management, compliance, and HR systems, serving as a key point of contact for employees and leaders.
Essential Responsibilities and Competencies
Success Metrics
Performance in this role will be evaluated based on timely resolution of employee relations cases, compliance audit readiness, onboarding effectiveness, system accuracy, and feedback from internal stakeholders.
Note: Given the breadth of responsibilities, workload prioritization will be coordinated with the National Director of HR Operations to ensure balanced expectations across employee relations, compliance, onboarding, and HRIS functions.
Employee Relations & HR Support
  • Provide daily support to employees and leaders on HR policies, procedures, and employee relations issues.
  • Investigate and resolve employee complaints and concerns in a timely, fair, and consistent manner.
  • Support and guide performance improvement plans and corrective action processes.
  • Partner with Director of HR Operations on employee engagement, retention, and development strategies.
  • Maintain documentation and ensure compliance with company policies and employment law.
HR Processes & Compliance
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Support HR audits and ensure data integrity across HR systems.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports on HR related activities.
  • Support leave administration (FMLA, ADA, etc.) in partnership with Total Rewards Manager.
  • Stay informed of changes in employment laws and recommend process improvements accordingly.
Ensure accurate record-keeping of employee data and HR transactions are captured in our HRIS system.
  • Manage the full cycle of unemployment claims, including responding to state inquiries, preparing supporting documentation, and contesting claims when appropriate to protect organizational interests.
  • Collaborate with Director of HR Operations and legal counsel, when applicable, and leaders to evaluate claim validity and provide accurate, timely responses to state agencies.
  • Maintain detailed records of all unemployment activity and provide the Finance team with a monthly breakdown of costs to support accurate budgeting and forecasting.
Onboarding & Performance Management
  • In partnership with HRIS & HR Specialist, facilitate onboarding sessions and ensure smooth transitions for new hires.
  • Support performance management processes, including quarterly check-ins and annual evaluations.
  • Assist in goal setting and feedback facilitation across teams.
  • Track and support progress on professional development plans.
  • Conduct 30-, 60-, and 90-day check-ins with new hires to assess onboarding effectiveness, build early engagement, and ensure a smooth transition into the organization.
Organizational Culture & Communication
  • Promote Open Sky Education’s mission, vision, and values in all HR practices.
  • Act as a positive ambassador for the HR team across the organization.
  • Help facilitate a culture of trust, feedback, collaboration, and growth.
  • Assist in developing and distributing internal HR communications.
  • Support community-building activities and HR-led events.
  • Coordinate and conduct stay interviews to proactively gather insights on team member satisfaction, identify retention risks, and support employee development and engagement strategies.
  • Manage and conduct exit interviews, analyze trends, and provide actionable insights to leadership to improve team member experience and reduce unwanted attrition.
  • Partner with leaders to implement strategies derived from feedback collected in stay and exit interviews, driving continuous improvement across departments.
Team Member, Community, and Vendor Relations
  • Participates in internal and external committees and special projects and seeks additional responsibilities and relationships
  • Develops and delivers written communications and presentations to communicate concepts related to one or more functional HR areas for leaders; develops and conducts training and presentations in collaboration with Director of HR Operations
  • Collaborate with other leaders to ensure OSE and its affiliated corporations are exciting, supportive, and challenging places of employment where all team members become a part of our team and family.

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration or related field required.
  • Experience: 3+ years of professional experience required; will consider candidates with 1+ year of experience with an advanced degree in a related field.
  • HR Platforms: Experience with Paycor is a plus but not required. We offer training and support to ensure success for candidates who are new to Paycor but have prior HR platform experience (i.e. UKG, Workday, SuccessFactors, ADP) and meet the other qualifications.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in HRIS systems, Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data analysis), Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge: HR laws, principles, and practices.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to interpret data and recommend improvements.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to educate employees and collaborate with stakeholders.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and use sound judgement.
  • Passion for supporting others and enhancing workplace culture is essential.
Preferred Qualifications
  • PHR or SHRM-CP certification.
  • Experience in fast paced environment

Work Location
This is primarily an on-site role working mostly from our National Office located in Waukesha, WI. Remote work flexibility of up to two (2) days per week may be granted with approval from the National Director of HR Operations. However, depending on business needs, in-office attendance may be requested up to five (5) days per week.
