Description

Do Great Things! Durham Technical Community College is hiring an Human Resources Business Partner of Employee Relations.

We are looking for candidates with exceptional interpersonal skills for the position of Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) in employee relations. The HRBP in the Employee Relations position will be responsible for the management, operation, and maintenance of all DTCC employee law-related activities that include EEOC, Title 7, and Title 9 investigations, ADA, Policy update compliance, training, DOL, and personnel record retention, and Audit inquiries, etc. This employee relations position will be responsible for collecting and analyzing employee data, organizing and updating employee files, and overseeing employee orientation and training, among other duties. This employee relations position will need to have extensive knowledge of employment law and investigation experience, and adhere to institutional and state regulations at all times.

Examples of Duties

  • Serve as the initial point of contact for employee concerns and complaints; conduct intake, document findings, and escalate complex matters to the Human Resources Director as appropriate.
  • Manage and track complaint data; analyze trends to inform decision-making and recommend appropriate actions.
  • Facilitate mediation sessions between supervisors and employees to resolve workplace conflicts.
  • Conduct HR investigations related to employee relations matters, ensuring compliance with policies and legal standards.
  • Manage casework including grievances, disciplinary actions, and performance improvement plans (PIPs).
  • Monitor and communicate updates to employment laws and regulatory requirements; ensure organizational compliance.
  • Serve as liaison for EEOC-related legal matters and sessions.
  • Maintain, review, and administer HR policies and procedures.
  • Serve as the primary contact for ADA, OSHA, and health and wellness programs; manage processes, tracking, and communication in coordination with the HR Director.
  • Support recruitment and employment practices as a key HR point of contact.
  • Conduct New Hire Orientation to ensure a smooth onboarding experience.
  • Prepare and distribute probationary materials for salaried employees.
  • Administer exit processes, including preparation and distribution of separation and retirement packets; provide guidance to employees during offboarding.
  • Respond to employment verification requests in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Coordinate employee recognition programs, including ordering service pins and preparing certificates for faculty and staff meetings.
  • Develop and deliver training workshops for supervisors and employees on HR-related topics.
  • Maintain records related to employee relations, compliance, and HR activities.
  • Complete all required professional development and mandatory training.
  • Perform other HR-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in human resources, Business Management, Psychology, or degree in any related field, or Equivalent 4 years of experience in HR with at least Associate’s degree or higher in human resources, Business Management, Psychology, or degree in any related field.

Work Experience:

  • Three years of relevant human resources experience with a strong focus on employment laws, Investigations, Title XI, disciplinary policies, EEOC, and Training

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in human resources, Business Management, Psychology, or degree in any related field
  • Five years of relevant Human Resources experience
  • Five years of Investigation Experience
  • HR Credentialing/Certifications (SHRM, IPMA, PSHRA, etc)

  • Excellent computer skills as evidenced by experience with at least one data analysis/business intelligence software product (such as Colleague, SAS, SPSS, Informer, Estudias) and competence with Microsoft Office products, including Excel and Word.
  • Personal integrity, honesty, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Understanding of the mission, goals, and objectives of a community college.

Normal Working Hours
:
A minimum of a 40-hour work week, as determined with the supervisor, to allow the employee to fulfill the assigned duties and responsibilities, including occasional evening and weekend hours. Summer schedules may vary to enable four-day or four-and-one-half-day work weeks.
