Overview
The HR Coordinator provides operational oversight of Discovery Lab’s human resources functions. This role is responsible for driving initiatives to make Discovery Lab a great place to work, support organizational growth, and ensure compliance with employment-related policies and laws. Reporting to the Director of Finance and Support, the HR Coordinator manages key systems and programs, including benefits administration, compensation strategy, workforce planning, compliance personnel management, and policy development. This position also acts as staff liaison to Discovery Lab’s Governing Board’s HR Committee.
Recruitment and Onboarding
· Assist with posting job openings, screening applications, scheduling interviews, and coordinating the hiring process.
· Conduct reference checks and prepare employment offer letters and onboarding materials.
· Coordinate new hire orientation and facilitate a welcoming onboarding experience.
Payroll &Talent Management
· Coordinate all aspects of employee lifecycle management, including onboarding, payroll processing, and staff engagement initiatives.
· Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee files and records in compliance with legal and organizational requirements.
· Manage data entry and reporting within Paycom (HRIS), ensuring data integrity across the system.
· Generate HR reports and support audits and documentation reviews.
· Coordinate employee benefits enrollment, changes, and questions related to health insurance, wellness programs, and the 401(k) plan.
· Administer and process payroll, including timesheet review and data verification in Paycom.
· Serve as a first point of contact for employee and manager questions about pay and benefits.
Employee Relations & Culture Support
· Lead the annual performance review process and support leadership in fostering staff development and accountability.
· Champion and analyze the annual staff satisfaction survey, reporting trends and implementing action plans to strengthen culture and engagement.
· Assist with staff engagement initiatives, including surveys and recognition programs.
· Coordinate and maintain records of training and professional development, including required safety trainings.
· Employee Expense Management Support and maintain Discovery Lab’s expense management system (Ramp)
· Oversee the p-card and employee reimbursement processes, including supporting employees, and enforcing policy compliance.
· Review and correct expense coding and import Ramp transactions into the General Ledger.
· Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws, including FLSA, FMLA, and ADA.
· Implement, distribute and maintain HR policies and procedures that reflect organizational values and legal compliance.
· Manage workers’ compensation claims and related processes.
· Ensure appropriate documentation, audits, and records are maintained following legal requirements and best practices.
What you’ll need:
· Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field — or equivalent work experience.
· At least 1–2 years of experience in an HR support, administrative, or coordinator role.
· Working knowledge of HR practices and applicable employment laws.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; experience with HRIS systems (Paycom preferred).
· Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
· Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
· Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.

How you’ll work:
This position is regular, full-time, and exempt with a typical schedule of Monday – Friday. Occasional after-hours or weekends may be required. Private office environment.

Pay: $19.77 - $26.69 per hour
