Human Resources Generalist - with a focus in training & development

Hours for this position are Monday - Thursday, 7:00am - 5:30pm. This is an in-person, in-office position with no opportunity for hybrid or remote work.

Job Summary
The Human Resource Generalist is responsible for performing HR related duties on a professional level and provides support to the management team. This position has the following responsibilities: training & development, recruitment, and onboarding. The incumbent will also assist the HR & Training Manager with employee relations, benefits administration, and employee engagement.

Essential Functions

  • Partner with Department Managers to assist with course training materials, including but not limited to creation, implementation, maintaining, reviewing, and audit/testing.
  • Maintain accurate training documentation, and initiate revisions to training courses as needed.
  • Assist the HR Manager with company-wide open-enrollment sessions, scheduling, and coordination of all annual testing, exams, and training.
  • Perform searches for qualified job candidates, using sources such as computer databases, networking, internet recruiting resources, media advertisements, job fairs, recruiting firms, or employee referrals.
  • Review employment applications to open job listing and job descriptions, to match applicants with the job requirements.
  • Select qualified job applicants and refer them to managers, making hiring recommendations when appropriate, and schedule interviews.
  • Inform job applicants of details such as duties and responsibilities, compensation, benefits, schedules, working conditions, or promotion opportunities at time of offer.
  • Conduct reference checks, background check, and drug screening after receipt of signed offer.
  • Hire employees and process hiring-related paperwork. Schedule or conduct new employee orientations.
  • Assist the HR manager in preparing and maintaining employment records related to events such as hiring, termination, leaves, transfers, or promotions.
  • Inform employees of benefits offered within 90 days of service and assist in the enrollment process accordingly.
  • Assist the HR Manager in addressing employee relations issues, such as harassment allegations, work complaints, or other employee concerns.
  • Conduct exit interviews and ensure that necessary employment termination paperwork is completed.
  • Maintain current knowledge of Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and affirmative action guidelines and laws, such as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Oregon Family Leave Act (OFLA), and Paid Leave Oregon (PLO) to assist the HR Manager in communications and employee understanding.
  • Ensure compliance with COBRA guidelines by preparing letters and other paperwork as directed; receives and records COBRA insurance premium payments.
  • Interpret and explain human resources policies, procedures, laws, standards, or regulations.
  • Ability to maintain professional integrity and exercise discernment regarding interactions with employees.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to work on-site, in-person for all shifts.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain necessary security certifications per company requirements.
  • Predictable and reliable attendance.
  • Ability to adhere to deadlines and produce quality work.
  • Ability to behave respectfully and work collaboratively with co-workers, customers, and vendors.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management or Business Administration required, and a minimum of three years of job-related experience, preferably in a human resource department.

Language Skills: Ability to read, write and speak English.

Math Ability: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division as well as the ability to convert units of measures.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Computer Skills: Working knowledge of MS Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Google Chrome, in an updated Windows environment; General understanding of enterprise software (ERP/MRP systems).

Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to adjust focus and discern color variations. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and use stairs.

Employee may be required to wear personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, ear protection, and/or gloves within the manufacturing environment. The noise level in the shop work environment is usually moderate but may reach higher levels depending on machines operated and work performed – hearing protection may be mandatory in some areas. The office work environment noise level may see levels approaching moderate in some areas.
