About United Community Housing Coalition (UCHC):
United Community Housing Coalition is a nonprofit organization committed to providing housing assistance to Detroit residents facing housing insecurity. Since 1973, UCHC has worked to keep people in their homes, prevent homelessness, and promote stable, affordable housing through direct services and advocacy.
Position Summary:
UCHC is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Human Resources Intern to support our HR department in day-to-day operations and special projects. This is an excellent opportunity for a student or recent graduate pursuing a career in Human Resources, Nonprofit Management, or a related field.
The intern will gain hands-on experience in a nonprofit HR setting, assisting with recruitment, onboarding, recordkeeping, employee engagement initiatives, and other HR-related functions.
The internship is anticipated to be extended from 6 months to one year, based on the availability of funding, current needs, and performance.
Responsibilities:

Assist with posting job openings, reviewing applications, and scheduling interviews.

Support onboarding and orientation processes for new hires.

Maintain accurate and confidential employee records.

Help with compliance tracking (e.g., training, background checks, certifications)

Support staff engagement activities and internal communications.

Participate in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives.

Assist with special HR projects and process improvements as needed.
Qualifications:

Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree program in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.

Strong organizational and communication skills.

Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Interest in nonprofit work and social justice is a plus.

Availability to work 15–40 hours per week (flexible scheduling available)
Compensation & Schedule:

Hourly Pay: $17.00/hour.
